Guess we're on the downwards trend now huh?
It happens with all paradox games...
There eventually comes a point where they "Update" so much that its not even the game you bought it for in the beginning.

Whats prompted me to write this? Moving the ship designer button. That was the last nail that stopped me from writing this here. And it be trivial yes. But it needs saying none the less...

Out of all the things they could "Update" Why that?
How many dozens (if not more) hours went into the decision and coding to move that button?
Why was it spent on that and not things we ACTUALLY want? (cough cough ground combat cough)

There comes a stage in every paradox game that you get TIRED of having to RELEARN an already steep curve every single time you take a small break.
I only breaked for a couple of weeks between the story pack and then apparently in that time all my leaders have gone insane!

Out of all the changes...
Why did we need a cap on our leaders? I play tall. But boy oh boy does that comment i saw once about "The devs have openly stated they dont patch for wide empires" becoming more and more true with the removal of good features (Looking at you admin buildings) to add.... Worse ones? (Looking at you empire sprawl i cant tell if im over anymore)

Out of all the changes....
Why did they "Update" the military to the point where DISRUPTORS are the new meta.
I dont play for the meta. BUT I AM SCARED AND AFRAID to go back into my save where i was about to break free from an empire that enslaved me. Simply because i dont know what works anymore...

Iv got over 900 hours in this game... And after those 900 hours.... I cant even tell my friend who id only recently got the game for to play with me "Yes this will keep you safe early game". Because its been "Updated" to the point where im finding myself watching GUIDES for the first time EVER. And still failing to understand it all.

Iv been playing stellaris since the early days of pops on tiles. And this is the first time since those first 3 hours im at a complete loss. We had the good changes and the upwards trend with player quality of life. Now we're just in that out of control downwards spiral as paradox changes so much to keep the game "new" and "updated" That we're not even playing stellaris anymore...

All this is making me want to do is go play more endless space 2.
A game that hasnt decided to try and reinvent the wheel every 4 months.
And a game that the further into things i look the deeper and more detailed it gets...
Stellaris is too busy repainting the outside to actually buy the furniture.

And im left looking at what stellaris COULD be.
Because im seeing what endless space IS. With a goverment system you actually get invested in. And a ground combat system that doesnt make you claw your eyes out...

I like stellaris. There's a reason i have many many many times more hours in it than endless space.... And yet i still find myself talking about how much better endless space feels than stellaris.... Which is funny to me.

Empire sprawl was a thing since the beginning of the game. The time during which you could 100% mitigate its effects was shorter than not.
Imaging thinking the combat rework has more to learn than 2.2...

The government system where you just decide which laws (same as the unity edicts here) are applied every now and then.
The only difference with the ground combat is that you can dictate the distribution of aerial, ground and armored forces.

funny that it's the relocation of a button that's the straw that breaks the camels back for you.

anyways take a break from the game, come back in a patch or two and you'll prolly be fine again.

Which one matters more to you?

a) how many people play this game
b) whether you enjoy this game

If you ask me, I don't care about the superficial number of players. I enjoy building and ruining empires in Stellaris all the same, even if I was the last Stellaris player in the world.

This game hasn't been the same one people bought at launch since they gutted the planet, pop and economic systems with megacorp. Honestly, selling players a game based on one set of systems, then patching them out for something entirely different should be grounds for an immediate full refund. I bought the game because I wanted the product as it was when you sold it to me, not what you think it should be in the future. Optional DLC that adds mechanics to the game is fine, core updates that strip out and replace entire mechanics and systems, are not. That's some bait and switch ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and it reeks of powertripping, "this is our game and we'll do what we want to it", no, ♥♥♥♥ you, I paid for this.

I have just come back from a break. I had a break for a couple of months.
Came back after the minor species rework. Played for about 7 hours then thought "Nah im not ready for this"

Returned to break... Come back and its even worse than when i left again... No. "A break" will not fix how i feel at owning a completely different game that i cannot even think of 1 thing that hasnt been changed for no reason in the space of a few months.

I love "having a break" and the last 900 hours of me learning the game become completely irrelevant.

Now i just wish i could still enjoy the game....
But of course "Just go back to an earlier version!" Ahhh yes i love missing out on the 1 or 2 good things about a patch because i didnt want to put up with the 9 or 10 bad things...
(Looking at you aquatics and NOT GIVING LIVING METAL TECH WITH THE CONFIRMED DEPOSITS)

They're not irrelevant. The changes in the past months are not game-changing.

Good thing I picked Adaptive trait at birth, definitely makes dealing with changes easier - and more fun!

then roll back to a version you liked.

or just move on. 900 hours is money well spend. be glad for the experience and don't look back.

probably what i should do honestly, not really feeling this latest patch either even tho on paper it sounds great.

Completely changing how ship size, weapon type, speed, and slots work.
Nooonononononno nothing game changing at all....
Just... Ignore the fact the worst weapon in game is now the best? Annnnnnd i cant even figure out why?? (and nobody else i speak too can tell me ether)

Please see about 2 comments up for what i think about "Rolling back"
Specifically how every roll back has issues that the next patch fixed... While breaking at least 1 other thing.
Case in point aquatics. Great update. Would play it forever.... Now if only living metal tech was confirmed because hahaaaa no tech unless you're blessed by RNGsus

oh i'm 100% in agreement that rolling back isn't a viable solution for 99% of people. (you can fix things like no living metal with the console though if that's your primary hiccup.)

most people just quit. nothing wrong with that. just try to look back on your time with the game positively, instead of being upset on how it ended.

wtf you talking about, last update was one of the best paradox made in last time, leaders are powerfull now, can give whole empire buff and they needed limit for balance, also you can get leaders over limit, lol
if you want more leaders limit pick xenophile(its buffed now cause last time was gargabe) and you can pick tradition to get more in limit
