Zoonotic Plague
Is the Zoonotic Plague bugged for anyone else? Every single time I have selected to provide aid, the society has died out. Yet when I select 'Watch and Learn' they survive. I think they have inverted the outcomes somehow. Surely providing aid should have the outcome that 'Watch and Learn' does.

I wouldn't even think it was bugged if not for the fact that several times in a row they have died while selecting provide aid. Unless I am just unlucky?

idk if theres a strong reason to think its a bug really. sometimes ♥♥♥♥ doesnt work out like you think or intend. theres lot of events in the game that dont have the outcome most would expect

Sure but why would watching and letting the plague run wild have the best outcome? Would not a technologically advanced civilisation from the stars providing aid (albeit in secret) not provide the best outcome? Doesn't really make any sense to me especially if you consider the fact that providing aid takes a hit to your food economy while watching has no impact on you whatsoever.

I was wondering the same, but I've seen the pre-FTL die out no matter what. If I watch, they die. If I help, they die. Basically zoonotic plague is the civilization's death.

So they can die even if you watch? Damn. It seems like it's heavily weighted they die no matter what, with the odd exception.

I just had them die (AGAIN) and then had my second pre FTL species nuke themselves despite revealing my presence to them. It seems this update just made pre FTL die for no reason. Kind of absurd that these events trigger so easily. I feel they should have a small chance to trigger but at this rate, every pre FTL in the galaxy will die to some horrific event.

Good intentions dont always make for the best outcomes. Theres tons of historical examples when attempting to help makes things worse. It also happens today IRL quite often

(if you dont wanna click on a weird link, its just a picture of a news clipping that includes the phrase "aid-giving in fragile states seems especially vulnerable to causing unintended harm")

like dont get me wrong it *COULD* be a bug. just idk if theres a good reason to think so
theres lots of events in stellaris that are kinda like that
there could also be multiple outcomes for each choice, there alot like that too

Good question.
Zoonic or "among mammals" derives from "to suck" in greek, because this is how young mammals feed.
Some adult bugs also have sucking mouth parts, but this doesn't make bugs "zoo".

Also I think Stellaris "zoonic" is an euphemism for "conona".

So only mammal species should be succeptible to zoonic plagues.

except its "Zoonotic" which is a different word and refers to diseases that can spread between animals and people

Regardless of the approach you choose, this situation has 15% chance to kill a pop every month. So the best approach to save the civilization is promoting the disease to end this situation asap.
On entering stage 2, you'll have:
70% chance: Rampant Contagion, choosing "Enough. This suffering must end." will have the civilization got full awareness and +150 opinion on stage 3.
30% chance: Survival of the Fittest. The species got Extremely Adaptive and will survive at last (if pops are not all killed halfway).

I have often suspected that the events team in particular for Paradox just doesn't quite understand how probabilities work. A 15% chance something is going to happen, every year, continually, with no change in chance or ending, means that over time, it becomes a near 100% probability. A lot of the events in Stellaris have a "chance of happening every turn/year" and thus they ALWAYS happen. This is why nearly every time there's a marauder 1 will go Horde, nearly every Fallen empire WILL awaken, etc, in the course of a game.

A disease killing people is reasonable. This is not like your marauder example (which I think is intended tho), it has an ending, meaning that the expectation of pops killed = length of situation in month * 0.15.
