Compared to the others, they're kinda basic. Same as the reptilian set too - that looks old compared to the more elaborate ones.
So far my favourite is the Necro's - I like that dark aesthetic and it's pretty much the only part of that DLC that's not ♥♥♥♥♥ lol
Can't recommend a mod as I am but a humble ironman player
I think the later designs improve drastically when it comes to this, they get much much smaller.
But man the Humanoid ships literally look like barges with guns thrown on top, it's just horrible. Mammalian ships do this to a degree, but it gets proportionally less worse the further down the tree you go towards more recent stuff. Toxoid ships look amazing in comparison.
There's however tons of mods out there that also go the anime route, some that go the techno-biology route and others but I still find myself hard-pressed to say that Stellaris is avoiding the illogical route entirely, if anything it looks more like their going with shaped ships that somehow either match the pre-made races or ones that they'll make in the future.
And...ya...humanoid ships actually match up to one of their oldest splash screens: https://imgur.com/bUCkHhq While not 100% sure, their not to far off the bat...
In fairness very few games actually have the flat pancake design, with the closest being both Star-trek and Star-wars but star wars is selective with it to, heck tons of other games and movies change it up a ton, games like EVE Online make you understand that pancake ships only exist for transports and the more towers on a ship, the more powerful it is (or glowy bits) or how games such as Warcraft (Yes they have space ships) literally look like floating mountains AND angry pancake wasps. https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Legion_ship
some of their concept art was used as inspiration for later content. Specificically i remember one of the loading screens with an alien at a desk looking out the window, people wanted to play these "loading screen aliens" so paradox was like "ok np" and made the portrait that the prebuilt voor techoncracy uses
I think similar with the ships but not sure and I also remember them saying it was inspired by "popular sci-fi" which i assumed meant star trek cuz thats what they look inspired by to me personally
I meant more the general aesthetic not any specific ship. voyager isnt really a pancake and still look slike it could fit in ok with humanoid ships imo
