Install Hyperdrive after Junp Drive start?

After starting as Eager Explorers and my science ships having all Jump Drives, I now researched Hyperdrives. I would like to install them on my science ships, becuae of the lonh cool downs, but I cant find any option to do so. How can I install a Hyperdrive on a Science or Constructor ship ? Also, can I have both interstellar systems or only one of them at the same time?

If you look further down on your build list in the shipyard, you will see options for new Science, Construction, and Colony Ships with hyperspace drives. Your original jumpdrive versions are at the top (Exploration, Engineering and Colonization Vessels).

Science ships are different from the starter exploration ships. After researching hyperdrives you can build both, buy there seems to be no way to upgrade the explorers

Unfortunately you can't upgrade to the regular version or combine the two. The juryrigged jump drive is strictly an inferior early game option for flavour.
Wish they had gone for making it so your ships would have both (like seriously, my scientists never thought to improve on the early FTL tech that lets us travel several times the distance of hyperlane drives in a single hop so we can use that in addition to the regular drives? Why do I even pay these eggheads?!).

I think you permanently have two versions of a colony ship, too. Which is annoying because you can accidentally make one with the crappy ftl drive.

And then you have to hop it over jump by jump like some sort of primitive pre-FTL species. Disgusting.

that was supremely annoying. ended up resorting to building a few colony ships to just sit around for when I need them like some sort of filthy AI
