Did you switch pre-FTL civilisations off? It only adds ones based on the other pre-FTL races, so if there aren't any others in the game, then it will just be your pops. If you didn't, then it's a bug.

The new origins that involve primitives or MSI will override any game settings you chose beforehand so this is probably a bug assuming no mods are involved.

Well, the Origin doesn't actually add other pre-FTL civs though; it force-spawns MSI and a randomised Payback Origin civ sure, but the blurb doesn't say it force spawns other pre-FTLs. Maybe it does in coding, but nothing Paradox have published says that it does. The wiki seems to be down, so I haven't been able to check that.

I don't doubt that. However, it is possible one or more are having an unintended consequence.
This isn't meant to be an attack on modding or using mods. It's just a fact of coding, ♥♥♥♥ gets weird at times.

Payback is weird in the same way, found "my" species later on, event says we thought it was weird that they learned our language so quickly we must be brothers or whatever the heck.
And they're like fish people while I'm human..

you are the payback origin. your species was also kidnapped by MSI and is one of the races that make up the broken shackles empire. I can see how it would be weird if the 'main' race isnt yours but the pop-up was actually talking about members of your species that live in that empire
