What IS the shielded world?
Will the shield somehow expire after a few thousand years? Could it be ever broken? What happens to the people inside?

There are special shielded worlds that will have a special project to lower the shield (they’ve been shielded for a long time).
Using a colossus to shield worlds during the game is irreversible. For gameplay purposes that planet is now useless and all pops that were there are deleted.
Technically the pops are alive, but the planet has to become self sufficient. That may not be possible and the planet would enter an apocalypse.

So the shields get weaker over time?

This is a type of Colossus, a weapon with which you can surround the planet with a force field, after which nothing can enter or get out of it. You can choose this type of weapon as more civilized and humane than the total destruction of the planet or the genocide of its population. The field cannot be removed by any means, with the exception of the field of some event planets that you can find while exploring space. 2 - 4 shielded worlds can be found in Fanatic xenophobe fallen empire territory. You can explore them with the science ship, opening the field gives you a steam achievement and a small event, however, it is not possible to peacefully enter their territory, so you will have to declare and win the war first.

It takes way too many ingame years for the shield to weaken enough for you to break it.

Though, could be interesting, if you play for a million more years after setting up the shield, it gives a special project to break it? For if you changed your mind... XD

I don't think ANY player would play for that long.
But if you did, that's your reward, you can now undo the shields. ^^

Well that doesn't work, because the game clears the planet and turns it into a generic, uninhabitable world.

Not sure whether it would have any impact on performance, but if the game had to keep track of the species that once inhabited and other data just for that case that pretty much nobody would ever find themselves in, that would be a rather significant case of unnecessary bloat.

Shield all crisis worlds and let future generations deal with them when the shields come down.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Or just keep track of what species existed on the planet and then randomize it when the planet is unshielded

If I was to use a colossus weapon I would just bust the planet.
There is a point in the game where your pops grow so much slower that you might as well deny the aliens worlds. The mining debris from busted planet is more automated than working the planet.

However I think the pacifist shield world option generates the least amount of hatred of colossus weapons. Does the shielded world produce science?

I just meant it more as a suggestion that could maybe be implemented ^^

Deluge creates a ready made planet into your preferred biome and if some of your pops were already living in their empire, they survive it! ^^
