so many popups and interruptions
i cant move my mouse even halfway across the screen at some points without a window popping up about something. this has gotten worse with every new feature added to the game. i am finding it unplayable now.

You can try the "Shut Up, We Don't Care!" mod, it fixes this issue to some extent.
I think the OP is talking about the event windows.

i

dk about unplayable, think you're going a bit overkill there buddy. I have 3.3k hours in the game and I normally just skip them, knowing the results of choices. You could slow your game down to x1 or x0.5 so you can give yourself time to read or clear them. You could also try turning off the DLC that add those many events. Usually I hear that there isn't ENOUGH events to tide you over...

sorry, i should be more clear. i am new and i find i have to read everything. I try playing while reading every popup, because i don't know what any of them say and so i don't know which ones i can skip. If you are new or returning after a long time. it is overwhelming.

It's a grand strategy game, not an RTS, so there's going to be popups and events that require your attention

You don't really need to read most popups if you don't want to. For anything that just was one dialog option, just hover over it, and it will tell you what the outcome of the event is. If it's just something that gives you resources, you can be 99.84% certain that the rest is just fluff, and you'll learn to notice the few exceptions to that rule soon enough.

The story content is half the game though.

I'm still fairly new and I personally love all flavor and fluff the events bring. That said, I don't think you really have to read much, if any, of them. You're pretty free to just skip to the choices and pick based on that. If you're struggling with choosing, then go ahead and read for the context at that point, but you can definitely skip reading a lot if you're not interested in the fluff.

It can get bad early game, especially if you have lots of science ships surveying at the same time and even worse if you play on fastest speed. But, it calms down mid-late game a bit.

Endless event spam IS the gameplay in Paradox games, didn't you know?

At the start of the game yes, you'll be flooded with them. Habitable worlds, precursors, new contacts and all the anomalies and new archeology sites. When you surveyed most of your surroundings and slammed into your neighboring empires you get way less popups and fittingly can focus more on how to deal with the filthy xenos

Some months ago the game got faster but also its brakes were cut. Thank you for the demonstration, epeen was flexed. Can we have the slow paced mode now?

In-game, if you go to Settings and then Gameplay, there is an option to turn off event auto popups. This will cause events to make an exclamation notification along the top of your screen, then you can pause and read them at your leisure. (Don't wait too long, as many events will time out and pick the default option after 30 days).

There are also options under the gameplay settings for event auto pause (turn it on for all events), and auto unpause (turn it off, and manually unpause when you're ready), that will make your gameplay experience a little easier, and less overwhelming.

Hope this helps!

But if OP is playing fast forward (that is how I explain a flooding by event popups), isn't there a risk that 30 days are too fast, indeed? Shouldn't the game adjust this delay according to game flow, so as to let the player circa 30 actual seconds to react?

Early game, sure, but mid and late game have less popups, so if they slowed the fastest speed down, they would get complaints from people in mid and late game that its too slow.
