In single player, I apply the same strat but it takes a little longer because I have no allies (Exterminator moment). Galactic contender perk becomes more important as it gives 33% bonus dmg against FEs, AEs, and Gray Tempest
First/early wars you want to deal them some casualties so you when you surrender, you can research their juicy tech from debris and get DM thrusters, reactors, and shields. Imo thrusters are the most important part because you can get higher sublight speeds and maneuverability is important, although you will almost never be as fast as their fleets. With their tech, it becomes a bit easier to fight them.
Their ships have range, for specific loadouts visit Aspec's video on YT about the FE types and weaponry. I found that to be immensely helpful to outfitting and composing my fleets. If at disadvantage with range, try to camp hyperlanes but you need to be really on point with your predictions or have a nebula to help your ships stay hidden - the FE fleets will outrun and thus outmaneuver you.
Also, they have jump drives and they have no fear of god or the unbidden to use them. Expect surprises. Hyper-relays and gateways are critical to late-game engagements
Oh and they can use anyone's gateways, wormholes, and no one can close borders to them so the wormhole that your uninvolved neighbor has that leads to you is a vulnerability that the FE WILL exploit
Also taking out even one of their fleets and then researching the wreckage with your science ship will get you access to researching their dark matter tech, which is the best you can get for your ships excluding the psi level techs from shroud events and dragon armor for slaying the dragon leviathan.
I'm not sure how many boss creatures can be tooken out with a 50k fleet but much of the smaller peskier stuff can be removed. Space wales, crystal entities, mining robots.
Taking out smaller empires simplifies your local diplomacy while also ensuring there is more path ways for your fleets.
Submitting to the fallen empire is a loss but if you also took actions to simplify your space it becomes clearer how you'll play the larger powers to a win. Or... what desperate measures you'll have to take.
Only if the world status permits it. Do not attack them if your mid-game and you haven’t had a great khan. Otherwise there’s a VERY high chance that the Marauders your attacking will unify against you under a great khan, and that will spawn in a bunch of fleets against you.
Build a bigger fleet.
But in general, avoid making FEs angry before you are ready.
