How are you suppose to fight fallen empires?
I hate fallen empires. They seem to only be there to kill you just as you're getting things the way you like it. Can't talk to them, can't trade.
And now this space frog just declared war on what seems to be half the galaxy. My best fleet is 47k, theirs is 215k. How am I suppose to beat that?

I'm still newish so I've only encountered a couple of them, but the one in my current game just keeps giving me technology because I'm "too primitive" and any time I accept their gifts they like me more 🤷

By playing better. Having a fleet of 47k by the time empires can normally awaken is an incredibly low number.

Otherwise, stay out of their way and submit if necessary.

Honestly practice makes perfect. Even when I mess around role playing now I can beat those empires. I literally kept a smallesh empire, opened the L-gates murdered the grey goo, claimed the entire cluster, *abandoned* every last world I had in the main galaxy. (To be fair I gave some to a research vassal. To add extra difficulty, I went spiritualist, and banned any dirty xenos from breeding.

One tip that can greatly help.. is if you get roped into a war, try and profit from it. Early/mid game an empire declared war on me because I was "weak". I ramped up my ship production, hired mercs, hired marauders.. and claimed a couple worlds which I then took all the population from as slaves. (70ish+ pops a nice windfall). It honestly pushed my empire into overdrive and allowed for massive projects.

By playing better, you should be more then strong enough to kill them roughly 100 years in and if they ever awaken you should be able to out-number them 4:1 and be able to murder them through numbers.

As others described. You need to refine your play strategy so you have a sufficient technology level to fight, with enough production to be able to win.
A Fallen Empire will not replace destroyed fleets and a Awakened Empire will replace them fairly slowly.
Easiest strategy is to just wait until their fleets leave their home systems to either ambush them or to take control of their starbases when the fleet is away. Try not to engage multiple stacked Fallen/Awakened Empire fleets unless you have a sheer overwhelming advantage.

What game year is it that this happened op? Fallen empires typically don’t attack you unless you do something specific to piss them off. Alternately you reached a game year when they have a chance to “awaken” and behave closer to a normal ai enpire and may attack you.

If it’s the former then there’s a reason they attacked, depending heavily on their ethics.

It's specially funny when war in heaven triggers, and 2 fallen empires awaken, but since they are within your borders and you're 10x stronger than their 250k fleet spam they both just stay quiet and pretend to be going to war.

Currently doing this in my run as a devouring swarm, I'm trying to keep them around, alive, to see if they can turn into defenders of the galaxy when the x25 crisis spawns, they don't stand a chance on their own but they could help as distractions, I guess, not even sure if they can awaken as defenders after war in heaven tbh.

Well, typically you would want to be advanced enough to defeat them or at least strong enough to hold them back while you progress, but if you cannot hold them back then just submit. War in Heaven ends after the 2 great powers bash each other to death and the fanatic pacifiers guys who try to turn everyone into a vassal will eventually become more and more stagnant over time and only drain 30% tech gain. Just recoup and blast 'em.

They will not actually destroy you, they just want to complete war goals. Curb the no losses pride and get ready to pay them back in double.

If you want, set end game to a later year (+50-100 yrs is plenty) and it should stop the fallen empires from getting uppity for a longer time while you grow.

General speaking:
X weapon lighting.
Ignore's armor and sheild.
Fallen empire hullpoints are very low.
Just slaughter them from range.

Also awaken empire's will fall back to sleep eventualy.
Just outlast them then build up x weapon fleets.

In a recent game, I started next to a happy-go-lucky federation and a fallen empire. Not too bad, I thought, I got my back secured.

Sometime later, all of sudden one of federation members simply disappeared. Their world had been encased inside a shield by the FE's colossus.

I wondered what the hell have they done to draw the FE's ire, but I kept my head a little lower from then on. Yikes.

1. They are a mini-crisis, you are not supposed to fight them alone.
2. Galaxy Contender perk gives bonus damage against them.
3. Destroying their ships should give you advanced techs like they have (darkmatter tech)
4. You have to fight with masses of ships, they will destroy your ships in a few shots.
5. A mass of destroyers/cruisers with your own design to put large weapons on them.
6. Bomb and capture their planets, they do not have many. Expect 4-6k troops defending.

You are not supposed to deal with them when you are weak. They are a menace in early and middle game, someone you have to appease and plan around. Don't ruffle their feathers. Do not take an isolationist's neighbouring systems, do not settle a spiritual's holy worlds, bend over backwards to fulfil their demands. Late game they're a piniata of tech and planets, since they don't scale and you do.

This is really cracking me up, I hadn't considered what would happen if they used a colossus on a 1 planet empire but them "disappearing" randomly has me in shambles.
I haven't been dusted by an FE yet so I wonder if they make the achievement for killing an active colossus easier to get.
Fabiaville Jun 18, 2022 @ 3:13pm
the way to face FE's is to out-tech them or get a massive economy and get a fleet stack that surpasses their fleets or some combination of both of these.
remember that surrender is always an option when dealing with a awakened fallen empire.
due to the (hidden) decadence mechanic, the larger a FE grows the faster they will get massive nerfs to their fleets and economy. each planet the FE or their subjects owns has a chance of increasing the FE's decadence ( i think each year), when this reaches 100 they will get hit by massive nerfs to job output which usually translates into resource shortages and with that, massive reduction in fleet power.
