Co-op?
Are there co-op options in this game?

Is there a joint victory then?

no
the game usually end before that anyway

You can play multiplayer with your friend and aggree not to kill each other. That's pretty co-op like.

As far as the ai go they will be friends with you but will still try to compete with you, so in absolute its more of an agreement not to kill each other with a bonus happy interaction.

With the ever faintly possible chance they might back stab at any moment.

Well and you can of course start a federation for more cooperation. With a human ally that has even a chance NOT to be the headache it is with AIs.

If you mean multiple people playing the same empire then no, and in the end whoever has the highest score is technically the only winner but that doesn't mean you can't work together and have fun.

Too bad. I have found playing "with" friends more enjoyable than playing against them. Gladius is a great example of a 4X game that allows this.

Reaching the victory date doesn't matter much any way. You decide the game is over long before. Even if technically only one empire can "win".

Thanks all. Looks like I won't be purchasing Stellaris.

I play it “Co-op” all the time. It isn’t a strictly present feature, but there are loads of ways to cooperate with another player to help each other succeed. The only thing stellaris lacks to make it a “coop” title is a shared victory screen. You can fight wars together, share resources, help each other research, etc. Heck, in older versions explicit coop victory was actually possible, it just didn’t make it through some changes to how victory works. However, victory is just a timer and a score counter. There are very little real gameplay objectives that cannot be tackled as a team.

Razor Feather, I just might reconsider the game's purchase then.

you can set "cluster player start" in the options so you and your friend will start next to each other

He didn't say anything different than the others.

Well if Op is not bluffing about not have game I want to crush op dream by saying that Stellaris is hard as ****s to actually win in.

It'll take you over 1k hour of playing before you can figure out enough of the interface in depth enough to survive long enough only to die from your neighbour empire to repeat again in another game only to die again. And thats not even the hardest difficulty.

With all the recent updates and players wanting harder ai, pretty soon it will be like the final tech support boss fight every waking moment.

Im joking a little here, but not at same time.

Not to mention you could* end up spending a good part of a week playing one build until you get to the final year.

Speaking of which, I still have not managed to get to the final year, I always end up starting a new game.
