Can't click anything in the main menu
Haven't played Stellaris in a month or so.

Bought Overlord & updated the game.

Stellaris will load to the main menu, but I can't click anything.

I can use keyboard shortcuts to exit the "welcome to the new version" popup or to select an option from the main menu, so the game's not frozen.

I've tried verifying the local files, uninstalling/reinstalling the game, updating my OS etc.

For what it's worth, I'm playing on WIndows 10 via my Surface Pro 7.

There are no mods involved (never used them at all).

Any thoughts?

Do you see your mouse pointer ? I'm totally speculating, but it's possible your mouse position as it is displayed is desynced with the game screen because of a screen resolution issue. Try to move it around and see if buttons get highlighted.

No luck. Tried it with mouse, touchpad, and touchscreen. Same story. I do see the cursor though.

I tried using the keyboard to go into Settings to mess with the resolution, but there doesn't seem to be a way to change the settings just with keyboard.

You can edit the file Users\$Username$\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\settings to change your resolution from outside the game.

Apparently the solution is to Alt+Tab out and back in. (facepalm)

hmm, sounds kinda like my warframe issue except that's just crap framerate until i tab out. it seems like it's not starting as the primary program for some reason. been meaning to test if it was gforce experience.

solved for me.
Changed in the graphics Settings from borderless to windowd. Everything runs fine now. But the way to do it was cruel. click settings -alt tab to windows- alt tab to stellaris - click graphic - -alt tab to windows- alt tab to stellaris ,... and so on. Nice bug.

Just like Scr(A)tch said. I changed the UI scale in the folder Users\$Username$\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\settings from 2 to 1. Now all is fine. Thanks

Changing the Settings file did nothing... Will I have to alt-tab every time I need to click at something smh?

Also why does this game need a restart to change resolution ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥...

Well I only have to do it once per play through.
