Did the ally have a vassal previous to forming the federation?
Don't know why the AI did not check relation with federation member's vassal before accepting invitation first.
On side note: the AI seems to obsessively try to kick vassal out of federation including Overlord who kept them in sometimes. Afraid of overwhelming voting power perhaps....
I ended up give up federation and go vassalize everyone instead because of said problems.
It's because they don't want to be in the federation with their own vassals.
When joining the AI does not forsee these consequences.
Disable "underlings join" for better results.
