Fleets stuck in system duing war when Transports present.
Anyone else seen this? Sometimes my fleets get stuck trying to battle a transport fleet that is just at the edge of the system (I presume they are just about to jump to the next system and that is what causes it). My fleet will hang around near the center and occasionally take a long range shot and it usually resolves but can take months or even a couple of years. I have tried to move the fleets but since they are "engaged" in combat the only option is to "retreat". It has happened several times in this game and I think it happened a couple on my last game as well.

No mods. All DLC. Up do date.

Should be due to the engagement computers you have, keeping the ships outside of the range of their other guns
Leave a ship or 2 to deal with them, and set the fleet to passive to keep them moving.
Honestly you want to deal with them anyway because they will/could land on a planet, making you have to backtrack to clear them out again with ground combat.

Once any of my fleets enter the system they were stuck and can not leave so leaving a few ships behind is not an option. It is either retreat all or just wait for a year or two.
If they are stuck it is because an FTL inhibitor is in effect. Probably where the transports are coming from, or they are coming from someplace else to reinforce.
Either way, you have to deal with the source of the FTL inhibitor before you can move on. Dealing with the transports is secondary to that.

No. There was not an FTL inhibitor. They were literally stuck in midst of combat so you can’t even really select them or give commands. When you click on the fleets, the combat progress window opens and you can see they are winning but then the slider barely moves. You can retreat or wait. You probably need to see it which is why I asked if any other players have seen it. In 6 years and 700 hours I don’t recall seeing anything like it but just in this and the last game which is why I think MAYBE it’s some sort of bug. If you look in the system you can see that the transport fleets are trying to jump out of the system but they are stuck right at the edge.

If it was an FTL inhibitor, I would be able to leave the way I came in but the combat is stuck between my 80k fleet and a few troop tranports for a year or two then it eventually resolves.

Ok, yeah if they are in combat you could not manually disengage them.
How strong are these transports for the combat to take a year or more?
Once you have battleships you basically one shot them into oblivion.

They are a nuisance for sure. I hate when we get to the point where all you have are transports in every system etc. and constantly popping in while you are trying to do orbital bombardment.

well my initial point/tip still stands. once that engagement is over, Leave a ship behind on aggressive, and set the fleet to passive, and move on.

I had a titan and 5 battleships + more. I think they either can’t get them because they are in limbo between the system and the hyper lane.
Or won’t close on them because they are mid jump.

Well good luck. I do agree it is a pain and silly micro-managing during a war that really isn't needed, isn't useful, and provides nothing of value to the game.
Transport ships should just land or run and not serve as ridiculous suicidal cannon fodder for no real reason.
The troops would frag the pilot trying to do that.

Ok. I found some other repots on here and PDX forums…. This one actually looks very much like my occurrences.

i just had the same issue as OP (no mods), after checking around on Reddit, there appears to be an identical issue from 7 YEARS AGO. Either this issue came back or was never properly resolved in the first place.

I've seen some of the suggestions of weapon range being the culprit, but when all you have are corvettes on swarm, can you get any shorter range?

There's so much to like about this game, but the numerous issues that never seem to get resolved are a really big negative.
