New here, should I bother with the in-game tutorial or just watch a video?
Title. Also this game is still worth it single player vs ai right?

I'd recommend watching the video first. Then if you want you can use it as a benchmark to judge the tutorial. The tutorial is sorta infamously useless, though...

pretty sure there are more people playing singleplayer than multiplayer(no statistics though)

i would recommend watching some(a lot) tutorial videos on youtube
some good channels - MontuPlays, Ep3o, ASpec

only problem: some game basic videos can be quiete old, some of them fine but some - outdated, cause game keep changing stuff through patches
so, maybe watch everything(looking like tutorial about something - mechanics, planet types, economics, maybe certain builds videos), from newest to oldest

Alternatively, neither, and learn by playing :P

Never let a question go by without arguing against its premise, amirite?

That wasn't my intention.
It was just a joke. There's nothing wrong with reading a guide.
But yes, the ingame tutorial isn't very useful. I'm not sure if the tutorial even existed at the start.
Personally, my first run of a new 4X is always a minimum difficulty game just to investigate for myself the different mechanics - but logically this might be a slower way of learning compared to reading/watching even a low-depth guide.

Yeah, there is. It's "documented" in that very extensive reference source one gets when one pushes the big "?" key on the interface:

Honestly the tutorial isn’t all that bad, in that it teaches you the basics of the game.

The main issue, which is common not just to other Paradox games but to all strategies game that follow a similar model, is that the game you start is going to look wildly different in a few hours of gameplay, as you unlock new technologies, new abilities (traditions for Stellaris) and so forth.

I’d recommend watching a simple video that explains just where things are and how resources work, where to get alloys and consumer goods, what to do with unity, this sort of things.
And then jump in the game for yourself, on a lower difficulty.

You’ll make mistakes, for sure, but you’ll also discover things that you would not see in a “perfect” gameplay.
For example, losing a war and getting forcefully vassalised by another empire isn’t the end of the game, it just means your objective now is to break free from your overlord (whilst getting him to protect you from other enemies),

Plus, do not get sucked in by those that say “if you’re not playing with Grand Admiral *and* 25x crisis, you’re bad”.
It’s a game, you’re supposed to enjoy it.
If you do enjoy playing a carefully planned game, where hitting the wrong button 17 hours in means you lose everything you own, good for you.
If you enjoy playing a lower difficulty, where you can make plenty of mistakes or play a less optimal build for the purpose of role play or just having a relaxing session, that’s just as perfectly viable.

I play this game every now and then and every time they made big changes, result... everytime i have learned the game and got a universe going i am forced to stop it and start and learn anew *lauhghs* The game is highly technical and it takes a bunch of runs to understand the basics. But its fun, imo the ingame tuttorial isnt really that great and cerytainly was not enough to learn me the basics. In the end this game... requires the tuttorial, yourtube vids and you stil end up asking here wtf your game ends early or why your resource/sprawl is out of control :D I do recommend to play basegame for a while, you can buy dlc and all but dont activate them. Make sure you get thayt basics in control and are able to survive the resource/sprawl period. Ohw do keep in mind... when you are going to watch youtube tuttorials make sure its for the gameversion you run with. There are many many vids out there and many of the older ones do not really fit to the current version and changed up mechanics
