Game executable invalid

I use to play stellaris though the XBOX app on my PC, 300 hours in on that and no issues at all, i recently switched over to steam, and one thing i have noticed is that when i open the launcher, it wont let me press play as a red exclamatory sign pops up next to it saying 'game executable is invalid'. I know A solution to this and it is to reinstall the game, but it is a pain to keep doing this every time i want to play the game. And yes i have verified the files and cleared the download cache. Any help would be appreciated!

This just started happening to me on steam also. I have had this game for years without issue and lately this error has reoccurred several times now. Verify game files is quicker than a reinstall BTW.

Found what the issue was, the anti-virus of my PC just suddenly decided that the EXE launch file was something that needed to be deleted, activated windows defending as a replacement for my anti-virus and haven't had an issue since.

Thank you. I think it was my AVG as well, I disabled it and the game worked fine after I replaced the .exe file. With avg running it would not allow the .exe to be replaced...

Just found an easy option as well in AVG go to the menu, quarantine, click the stellaris files and click the bottom button to restore and add exception.
