custom AI empires - any Origins that the AI can't handle?
Revisiting Stellaris (all DLCs) after a long break, I'm in the process of designing a bunch of custom empires to force spawn in my games. Emphasis is more on the RP side of things so ideally I'd like to have AIs with interesting backgrounds, which often means Origins.

Thing is, some of the Origins at this point introduce new imperatives or change empire priorities significantly. There definitely was not as much variety back in the day! I'm wondering if there are any that the AI struggles with - either completely lacks the awareness to react to them, or behaves in some majorly un-optimized fashion that always results in a weak empire.

I know the limitations of Paradox AI and like I said am mostly interested in RP based games, so it doesn't have to be perfect. Mostly just looking to know about the ones that have predictable (bad) results every time.

The candidates I think of first are the challenge origins like Doomsday, Payback, Synthetic Fertility, etc, but maybe there are other more subtly weak ones.

The only Origins I can think of that would give the AI trouble would be the ones you mentioned (ie Doomsday) and anything similar when it comes to specialized gameplay. I think Scion would also fall under it since it is under a FE. The federation and hegemony ones may also fall under those depending on how you build the empires but I have seen AI absolutely dominate the galaxy with those Origins, I remember an AI empire having Hegemony and it was a powerhouse thanks to its subjects while also only having one system (No joke, just its home system, no expansion cause it couldn't).

I'll just add that I have seen what EJR has, that the AI empires of federations are powerhouses. I'm thinking I might try to create several with the same federation origin and, hoping they don't destroy me, watch how they compete, as they're all strong.

Note that the no-hyperdrive start civics also breaks the AI. They won't move until they research hyperdrives last I heard.

Thanks for the replies.

I've also noticed in a couple games so far - the AI with the Shattered Ring origin not colonizing the other 2 ring segments in their home system. In the most recent example it's around year 80-90 and that empire has colonized nearby natural worlds as you'd expect, but ignoring their 2 guaranteed spots seems like a big disadvantage.

Is this just a one-time outcome or have others noticed the same thing?

If you play deep enough, they get there eventually. I don't think they ever do it in a hurry. I've played enough games to say that Shattered Rings is one of the stronger AI origins. They don't always thrive, but they do fairly often.
