Can't use Jump Drives
Hello we all know the value of a tech that allows quicker movement on the map yet, I can't seem to be able to use it despite researching it and I don't know why? Who can help me figure out the reason for it.

This is a good thought, to add to it I'd like to explain this is a rare (purple) tech and both jump drive techs are red (dangerous) techs. Only science ships not set to evasive can use the experimental drives. You'll need one of the two red jump drive techs to use on all other types of ships.

How long exactly? Jump drives do function way differently than they used to way back when. Could help explain your confusion here, the old me that payed Stellaris back then would be completely lost now.

Are they built onto your ships? I'm unaware of your skill level, so I'll just mention it in case you are unfamiliar: You need to open ship designer (F9), and then choose the jump drive (drives are the second item from the top of the five icons on the left of the ship). Then you have to hit "upgrade" on your fleets to actually install them.

After you just used them, you have to wait something like 180 days before using them again, so they might not be "working" for that reason.

Also, if you picked up a ship from the AI game, like a cruiser or frigate, those ships cannot be edited. If that ship is in your fleet, the ENTIRE fleet cannot jump. Just separate that ship from the fleet and your fleet will be ready go jump.

Those are some things I can think of.

Full aware of the ship design feature and drivers however they literally aren't there in the list. However it might be A.I. ship though I don't see how that would affect things if only one fleet has them and the other three don't.

As said you need to make sure every ship in a fleet has jump drive. Then select that fleet go to galaxy view. Then press "J" and left click any system within the orange dotted circle.

Note that the fleet still takes a moment to engage the drive and there's a decently long cool down before it can used again also your fleets stats are reduced during the cool down.

Another possibility could be mods not playing nicely with it.

Decided to test your theory all mods are off and I revert to the previous version before the Machine Age DLC. It is researched and still not appearing.

Your directions are easy to understand and follow however, if the symbol for the tech despite it being researched doesn't appear in the drivers list how do you expect me to follow it.

Hello everyone who is trying to help me out its clear I need to give more information:

1) I have played Stellaris before and have used jump drives in the past back in the old days.
2) I don't have all the DLCs, I have up to Distant stars.
3) I have tried finding jump drives in the drivers list but the icon for it doesn't appear at all either for Machine Age version of the game or before that, and I mean that literally. If I can't select what good are directions if I can't select or find it.
4) I have turned off all mods and don't got a single A.I. ship in any of my fleets.

Note: I will update this comment if anything else is suggested as a problem but isn't proven to be an issue.

It doesn't show up in the ship designer?

If you're not seeing in the designer after having researched it even with no mods then your best bet is to verify and/or do a clean install.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

It sounds to me like you didn't research it yet, as Yograin intimated.

When you say it "doesn't appear," it might be good to clarify this: where exactly it does not appear. If you are in ship designer, and click on a ship, and open the drives to the right, you'll see only the drives you have researched so far, which can be hyperdrive I, II, III, or jump drive. If any of those is not there, then you didn't research it yet.

If it does not appear elsewhere, like in your researches, you have to wait it out. But certain choices of techs and increase the probability that it pops up to be researched. You can see where the jump drives pop up on the research tree with this useful on-line tool:

addition to answer above
maybe you researched Speculative Hyperlane Breaching, which has similar picture?

Hello everyone if you are having the same trouble as me with jump drives I will quickly summarize whats going on. Back in the day when Stellaris just released Distant Stars jump drive tech worked way differently back then, now its changed because jump drives are such a useful tool that can be very overpowered due to the movement advantage they give.

So here is how you get jump drives:

It will only appear under the Physics tech option and you will need to research the following:

1) Speculative Hyperlane Breaching is the purple tech in the Physics options and it is part 1 that won't give you jump drives but makes it possible for the next tech to appear.

2) Jump Drive does give you jump drives and is part 2 of the techs you need it is the color of red. Please note this tech will never appear first without its part 1 tech because part 1 tech is the experiment part in the in game universe for your faction. Also when it will show up is unknown it will only show up later in the game after awhile has passed in the game, how long don't know just choose it before you lose it.

Tips:

1) to increase your attempts at increasing your chances of getting these techs research research alternatives +1 and take discovery to have your options increase from 3 to 5 this is very useful.

2) Create tech worlds aka research worlds with a lot of research labs to go through techs faster.

3) Build at least two research labs per planet never a bad thing having too much research.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Also I lowered the difficult because I was more interested in finding out and testing what was going wrong so, how it works on higher difficulties I don't know not that good to play on Captain and up.

Your tips are good but I want to correct you here. Speculative Hyperlane Breaching is not a requirement for jump drives nor does it increase the chances of it appearing.

Jump drives, the normal jump drives, only require the Zero Point power tech. Psi jump drive require you to progress down the psionic tree and not be a gestalt.
