So for DLC, basically buy Utopia and call it a day?

For the first 10-14 hours probably. Almost all DLCs are worth it, you can skip the Astral Planes.
No! In order to be the greatest player of Stellaris, you'll need to buy all of them.

Skip utopia. Buy synthetic dawn, machine age and apocalypse and call it a day :)

All of the DLC make the game better, to varying extents; some just have a much poorer price to value ratio than others.

So no. In a perfect world where you had infinite wealth, you should buy all of them. As for the real world, that depends on your economic situation and how much you like the game.

I'd probably recommend just starting out with the expansion subscription at this point and see if you even like the game first. This far into the game's life cycle, even waiting for sales, it'll take quite a while to get a return on your investment with buying over subscribing.

I'd try out the subscription service and see what you like, tbh.

tempted but that price tag on machine age feels absurd
whomever said all dlc is worth it is absolutely bonkers.

I was getting every new DLC the day it came out, so I don't even remember what most of them added by now, lol. :guppy: But yeah, just read through descriptions and decide what sounds interesting to you.

I have only Apocalipse and Utopia and still have fun :) These two are good for start

Stellaris is kind of like that ceramic kitty cat collection some grandma has. You get the first one you really like and slowly, over time, fill out the rest of your collection as you see fit. I'm on around seven years of playing this game now and I'm still missing some DLC.

I guess my point is all of the content has merit to someone, just cherry pick what sounds best for your style.

You could choose to only buy DLC on sale. The discounts for the older ones are quite steep. I'll add Distant Stars to the recommendations. More things to find is good for replay value.
