Spiritualist Machines?
What's the interaction with this DLC's new functionality between spiritualism and machines/synths?

As far as i'm given to understand, machines are allowed to be individualistic empures, which should allow choosing spiritualist. How does that work? Do pops hate themselves? Can a fanatic spiritualist empire go the path of virtuality?

Obviously i dont own the DLC yet, but this is kinda a big decision maker for me on whether i get it.

Think "Cylons" in the original "Battlestar Galactica" and I do believe you'll comprehend it completely: robots with religion... go figure.

Seems like their goal is to ascend to a higher form ASAP instead.

So they want the new ascension paths.

Should be simple: get your hands on the real storyline, not the idiotic remake, but the real one, the original one, and watch them... the one with Lorne Greene and John Calicos; those guys- not the stupid one from 2003 or thereabouts.

Arnt Spiritualist Forbidden by Default to Allow Robots and AI, or even if they can allow them only as "non Sentient" Workforce???? I know the Factions demand that, but isnt that Locked if you start Spiritual Right away?

I was wondering as well.... Would that Mean a Spiritualistic Machine Empire needs a Second Species to be able to work every job?
Razorblade May 11, 2024 @ 11:55am
Biological Spiritualists don't like robots because they think they lack souls. Obviously, sentient robots take no issue with the idea that a machine might have a soul.

This is reflected in the machine Spiritualist faction not hating robots like the regular biological one. So no, they don't hate themselves.

As for the new ascension paths, Ethics are irrelevant. All empires that start the game as a machine species can take the 3 new machine-exclusive ascension paths. So yes, virtual spiritualists are a thing.

Spiritualist machines aren't a new concept; you've always been able to do the Synthetic Ascension as Spiritualists.

If you are Spiritualist and a machine species, your factions/policies ignore any normal restrictions regarding robots. This is how it has worked since long before the Machine Age ever allowed you to be an individualist machine species from the start of the game.

I mean, you COULD but there was always some jank with it, like they didnt expect you to try. Everything from your own main species being banned, to auto purging your newly ascended synths

Now I want to try Virtual Spiritualists on my next game! Imagine believing in a greater power beyond our universe, then going virtual, CREATING that universe yourself, and fulfilling your own beliefs!

There's a neat story in one of the Culture novels about a galactic civilization that takes it upon itself to maintain a VR hell for punishment of the damned. "Surface Detail," I think.

The conversation title just made me think, "Yup, computers are possessed. Blasted things drive me crazy."

It's like now you can be a spiritualist machine empire, but all your points still go towards mechanical ascension and you can't explore Shroud. Strange combination
So no one here is going to bring up that Spiritualist Machines can easily be definied as the Mechanists from Warhammer and the Machine Spirit or are we just going to avoid that?

Like as far as I know the Shroud VS Mechanist thing is a partly a play on Daemons and Machines from Warhammer, not entirely but you know > Shroud is the Warp, Mechenists are those that worship the great turning cogwheel
