Why does leaders upkeep increase despite i dont recruite more leaders?
Hello,

i just started a game, recruited a few leaders within the limits. but then suddenly every ingame month the leaders unity upkeep costs increases every month.

How is the upkeep costs calculated? what position got more expensive?

I just have 4 leaders but they eat almost all unity.

No leaders gained levels and the overviews shows that no leaders direct unity costs increased. But the overall leaders upkeep unity costs increased sighnificantly, since my last recruited leaders from 19 to 24 and still increasing.

This games UI is truely terrible.

Usually, people who encounter this problem are either playing from a very old save from before the leaders were reworked, or they are using an outdated mod. If you're playing on a recently created game, I would advise trying disabling all the mods and see if that fixes things.

Sometimes it seems as though your state naturally recruits the promising leaders; I have been playing a game since leaders were updated, or so I presume, and it still naturally does that.
Ironically I'm thankful for that, as it makes governance easier.

I wouldn't classify this as a problem, and depends on the leader update you're referring to: I have been playing the game, and it regularly does that- I'm actually thankful for that, as it makes it easier to govern, especially when a lot is going on and you'd have real trouble, time-wise, addressing his job application.

Unity and Tech costs are determined by your empire's size. Number of systems, districts, planets, and pop contribute to your empire's size, and as your empire size increases, so does your Unity and Tech costs.

I think Leader Upkeep goes up as they level up, but it shouldn't be drastic. If you build an Autochton and another Admin Building or Temple, it ought to solve the problem. If it doesn't solve it, then you're either hit by a bug, or you're trying to convinue a save game made in an old version, i.e. v.3.10 or 3.11. Don't do that.

when you level them up they cost more, thats why I don't level up anyone anymore unless they have something I want, say, +10% to all science/jobs production.

I was referring to a specific bug that happens when you use an old save, not to any new functionality that's been added :) .

While it's true that tradition cost will increase with empire size, it's not the case for leader upkeep. It's 2 unity per level, no matter what your empire size is. My current playthrough has an empire size of 1233, I still only pay 2 unity per level of my leaders.

Both of you are right, but op said their leaders didn't increase in level and still had an increased upkeep.

When you look in your leaders screen, do you see the unity upkeep for each of them? Do you see any who has an upkeep that is more than 2 times their level?

i think yes its the leveling up. In previous versions level ups were announced but this seems to be gone. I was just confused...
