Why there are 3 different Human Portraits/Species?
Just wondering why.

because they all suck in various ways, each has caused their own little controversy in their own right from various political groups (not enough ________ representation, too much _________ representation, etc.), and so forth.

1. The original
2. The one with the ridiculous curved moustaches was part of the portrait revamp. They were supposed to take away the old portraits but people (namely me) made too much noise on the official forums about the moustaches that devs decided to keep the old portraits (1.) No need to thank me.
3. The latest portrait set is cybernetic, and is part of a group of several species portrait sets that change according to level of cybernetics/machination.

- Original portrait pack.

- Remade portrait pack that at first replaced the original. At the time some made a big deal about there not being any caucasian portraits in it (the selection designated as caucasian in the code didn't really look that caucasian). They returned the old pack so we had both (no statement made as far as i can remember).

- Latest that was added in Machine Age is a "cybernetic" portrait, if you make them cyborgs it shows on the portrait (2 stages), very steampunk'ish.

But there are Caucasians in the second Portrait...

Not white enough apparently. People want the "has never seen the sun and lived their whole life in a basement" look (and yes, this is a joke).

Anyway, its all in the past and not worth arguing about anymore.

Many people don´t like playing as humans, which is why OP made this thread.

It´s a matter of changing OP choices.

I mean: in general i like playing humans. Like, playing against all these "OP Empires" and you still beat them as a simple human. Glorious.

But what i dont like is:

If you have 6 different Empires and all of them are humans (wasteful, adaptable etc.) - they should count as "one species".

but because you have different portraits, they count as 3 different species. Even when they have the same stats.

i would like to see a humans only galaxy mod, or for game settings to allow me to select what can spawn in the galaxy and i mean what species can spawn or not, because it is a big thing for roleplay. i sit down to a game of stellaris and hope i will run into some of the human empires i created on my border, but most of the time i encounter aliens many of whom are based off cartoon and movie ripoffs and i dont want their pops in my empire. i know they can be purged and sold but the point is, i wanted an inter nation human war on a grand scale in stellaris and i dont have that option unless i get the 1/1000 chance lucky spawn where the other humans start near my empire.

The way to do that is to make multiple empires where the species share the human portrait and are called "human." Just make sure you give them unique starting systems or only one of them will spawn.

I like to make the legacy portrait with the weird mustaches "replicants" - near-human clone soldiers, like in Blade Runner, which explains both why humans mistreat them and why they hate humans.

Actual reason boils down to humans being the most played portrait according to Paradox analytics.

- It's why human portraits got a refresh even though most other portraits didn't.
- It's why people whined and/or got super racist when they suggested removing the original human portraits
- It's why we got human versions of Plantoids and lithoids for free.
- It's why one of the evolving cybernetic portrait sets is also human.

Basically it's just what their customers play so they're making sure the a large percentage of their player base remains happy.

I personally don't get it..... but people going to people.
