So I decided to do a run where I join up with her. I did all of her demands, gave her everything she wanted. But at the end, I still went to war with her. Is this the only outcome? I assume you'd have a choice of joining or fighting.

I don't know if there's a special ending if you devolve your species yourself beforehand.

if you abstain you will lose once her plotting has run its course. You cannot ally her.

Yeah, I went through til death. Just weird, with how it's played out, it makes it seem like you can become a subject to her or something. I know she might just be manipulating you to kill everyone but I still think it would have been cooler.

For a game with pacifism as one of the core ethics, they've done a disappointingly poor job envisioning non-combat resolutions to most of the game's story chains.

how long? its been like 40 years since it reached 60 and she barely has any outposts left since like a quarter of the AI hates her

Are you talking about the progress bar where you have to investigate her to progress? If that's this one, then it won't progress by itself, you need to either research the special projects, attack her convoys, or attack her outposts, depending on how far the situation has progressed. If you check your situation log, it should tell you which action you can take at the moment.

Ignore that If you're talking about something else :)

thats the one i got a fleet camping one of the hyperlanes that leads to her space and outpost wise there are barely any standing

Ah yes, the convoy one is a bit of a bother, last time I had to do that one, I had to make sure to research the project with my fleet before the AI empires could do it themselves, so I had to watch for the exact moment the convoy exited her borders, since several AI empire had their fleet there too :/ . Also it depends on RNG, only some of the outcomes make the situation progress, so it can take a few tries. Good luck :) !

When there's serious threat to your existence, even pacifists can and most likely will defend themselves by force. I myself am a pacifist, i don't want war to ever touch my country again in real life. Yet if any country would attack and try to invade my country, i would join up to defend it, even if it means that i would have to take up arms. And considering the game's story chains, most end up being existential threat to your nation.
