If we're only talking about AI, then anything would work. Just get a few scholariums early and give them a you-own-nothing-and-you-will-be-happy treaty and you will become overwhelming in every aspect very quickly. Your dominating position will be unshakable even before cruisers.
I'll soon steamroll my neighbors with my new fully operational Cruisers with tier 2 missiles lmao. I need sla.. i mean hard working people for my mines and farms.
But oh dear lord how the tech changes make the game feel, at least now in first game.. and i chose Under One Rule so i also have some things to "handle" while learning the new pacing with the tech. My laboratories feels like so nerfed.. for sure could not full min-max capital into tech, the upkeeps were insane so had to go like weird mix of things, ughh.. because of UOR origin demanding high upkeep for my Luminary also on top of other things. X)
Playing with everything in "normal settings" in 800 stars galaxy this time for a comfy game. Well hopefully comfy. Eyes been twitching every now and then from the changes. Things feel a bit slow.. And upkeeps feel brutal. Maybe i should have read all the changes better lol. I feel like some things are costing insane amounts so i have to build way more consumer goods and other stuff than before at this phase.
xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
late game arty/ss battleships dominate anything else you throw on them
Carrier Battleships with Arc Emitter/Tachyon Lance
Beats literally everything, 4:1 armor/shield
Cruisers are meat vs arty battleships
They're good before you get battleships, hell I use 60/40 cruisers battleships in my fleet and like I said, beats everything.
SS cruisers are much better mixed with PD destros or covetes
I tried PD/2x laser spam corvete vs missles cruisers and missles always lost
Also destroyers still have a place in endgame as PD; they're basically 2 corvettes in one ship, so while 1 corvette out of 2 being destroyed means a halving of firepower, a destroyer at half health still has its full firepower. Yeah you lose out on evasion but there's always gonna be a push-pull with building fleets.
Honestly many "all this one type" meta fleets don't work very well now. You really do need a relatively balanced fleet that isn't just strictly one or two ship types.
