Question about Galactic Paragons
So I want to dabble again into Stellaris.
It seems like Galactic Paragon is one of the DLCs I missed out since last time I played, however the negative reviews are holding me back.

I really would love a revamp of the Leader system (and Espionage and Diplomacy....) however many reviews say the leadercap is limited even in end game.

Did a patch adressed the issues many negative reviewers adress or is it still somewhat... lacking compared to vanilla leaders?

The general take on Paragons by people who like it seems to be that the new "leader" system it introduced was very powerful in patches 3.8, 3.9 and maybe to a lesser extent 3.10. There have been a lot of complaints that on 3.11 they have been so reduced in influence that they're more frustrating than rewarding. In general, if you're going to play on post-3.8 versions, Paragons seems pretty critical to enjoying yourself, since it gives you more control over the "paragon leaders."

I personally bought Paragons and hate it so much, I've rolled back to 3.6. So, I'm just relaying my understanding of other folks' opinions. I don't find it worth playing at all and am still chafed I got tricked into buying it, because I don't feel I got what I was paying for from it.

Thr key feauture is that it let's you pick the traits your leaders gain upon level up, which already exists without the DLC in limited leaders, and expands on the number of traits.

The main thing to hate about this DLC is that this should have been a feature in the base game, and it feels like (and i am betting that is was) the leaders rework was deliberately made just so they could sell you the DLC.

I only started playing in 3.10, and added paragons recently (in one of the half price sales), and it's been a significant upgrade. But I can't speak to earlier versions of the game. I use a lot of mods, so there was a bit of a multiplier effect, since some of them needed paragons. But I like being able to have some control of my leaders' skill paths, and I like the occasional weird but overpowered leaders showing up (can I take advantage of the bonuses for a while before this dude burns down my empire? do I need to dismiss this person? and some of them really are helpful). I'm more for the RP than trying to speedrun the system, and I think it adds to my experience. But again, I'm pretty new to Stellaris.

Leader cap has been nerfed into being meaningless, so yes, those reviews are outdated.

Pro tip: just don't read reviews for Paradox DLC. The fanbase is perpetually pissy, yet still so addicted to whatever Paradox is supplying that they buy at full price every time. Dumbest group of people on the internet; no one should listen to them.

FYI, steam code for Paragons is on sale at Green Man Gaming

So glad you asked!

I love it. It's my favorite DLC.

I am playing an empire based around it -- The Jedi Republic. We are a fanatic Spiritual group of authoritarians. My traits are living a long time, and increased leader experience. Of course we are into Psionics.

My leader is now immortal through the Psi stuff and one of my counselors. The wierd cool leaders that pop up are fascinating.

Every chance I get I push their experience gain or age limit and they get more and more powerful. Each add so much now.

They are the stars of the story. Love IT.
