Subterranean: Cave Dweller
Hi all!
Does anyone know how the Cave Dweller Trait works?
It’s that part with “+50% Species minimum habitability”, I still don’t understand how it works...
That is, regardless of the planet, the race will have 50% suitability or what?

Yup, pretty much. You trade off population growth for being able to colonize pretty much any even barely habitable ball of dirt and rock... among other things. :TheBureauAlien:

Perhaps it does increase stability based on atmospheric conditions.

Iirc, there are some natives you get into contact with, that may ask to join your empire, and I think they are cave dwellers.

Uuh, some kind of "subterranian" species.

So this would be a far more awesome origin if it let you colonise every planet and asteroid, like Belters in The Expanse, rather than just regular habitable planets.

It's a starting origin. You may need one of the DLCs to access it (lithoids maybe?). If you choose it, your pop gets the "cave-dweller" trait.

FWIW, I've always presumed the imaginary justification for it (aside from the mechanical balance trade-off) is that creatures who live underneath the soil will experience substantially less impact from the surface climate since they spend their time underground.

The subterranean civilization colony event can also produce a species in your empire who have the trait.

It does open a couple of additional options for events :)
