Overpopulation
So coming back to the game after a few years and overpopulation is going to be an issue soon. I'm running out of districts to build and it looks like they'll just keep growing.

What do you do when that happens? There's a decision for SLOWING growth but not stopping it.

usually build more habitats or ecumenopoli and resettle everyone to them as I need them or ring worlds.
I usually just set utopian abundance and see how many sardines I can cram in there with max city districts and housing buildings, should easily take over a hundred years to cram that bih.

shut down pop up
Export 'em all to emptier worlds

Mostly what everone is saying, use multiple things to stop it.
I usually build a pop world (aka ring or cityworld like coruscant) to shift extras to after the building slots fill... orrrrrrrrrrr build a bunch of habs

You can set population controls on your species with policies. Tbh if there's really no more space anywhere... the game's over :P

I think technically growth stops when you are at 150% housing capacity (with some stability hit) - but I am yet to see it.

All of my species have slow growth to slow overpopulation, and when it occurs I resettle my pops to other planets with less pops. There is a decision to stop growth, but i think it's only available to authoritarians and causes massive mood penalty when used. Pops seem to stop growing when over housing cap, but this causes a sizable stabillity hit.

Short answer is - don't. Any curtailing of pop growth cuts back on your development.

Move the pops to other planets with jobs. And if you're out of them, build habitats, or better yet, Ecumenopolii or Ring Worlds.

Long answer is - it'd be nice if there were a better way to manage them, but there isn't. If you're bored with the pop shuffle, start a new game where the game settings are such that the game is over before you need to deal with the extra pops.

You could always kill those dirty pops and start fresh. Clearly they are too needy.

Can any of those be used to augment a planetary colony's population? Would building, say, a habitat at a colonized planet ease its housing burdens, or help its workforce?

And of course there's always the option of going all nazi and expanding to the east for more lebensraum.
