That said, if you want to get the game and some DLCs, I suggest getting the starter Bundle, it's not super expensive and contains some of the best and THE BEST expansion of the game. Utopia.
Like Utopia is by far the best expansion they ever made for this game, it has a variety of different things in it, like Ascension Perks system (very important), Hive Minds, enhanced slavery, megastructures (huge structures in space), new Origins (Unique starting conditions for empires) and a few other things I forget.
The other DLCs in the Starter bundle are also pretty good and imo must-haves:
1. Synthetic Dawn adds machine empires to the game and they play pretty differently to organic empires. That alone makes it a good pack. There's vastly different playstyles for machines as well, like you can play as a more standard machine empire or you could play as skynet and wipe out all the organic empires while remaining friendly with your fellow machine empires. That said, I don't suggest machines, especially genocidal ones for a first playthrough though. Much better to learn the gameplay by playing a normal organic empire.
2. Distant Stars adds loads of new anomalies and unique systems. Basically this adds a lot of events and other fluff to the game and trust me you want more of this since the base game can get a bit repetitive with seeing the same events all the time. There's also the L-clusters, which I won't spoil for you, but they're pretty cool as well.
3. Federations. Basically you can use more federation types (base game only has 1 type iirc and the DLC adds much more) . There's also more options for the galactic community (basically the space UN) and much more Origins to pick from. There's also the megaship yard and the juggernaught (giant mobile shipyard with weapons on it)
