Also, selecting the Mind Over Matter ascension perk unlocks a Government Agenda which progresses by Psionic Theory 25% and unlocks as a permanent research option. You still need Psionic Theory in order to progress through the Psionics tradition tree.
That has to be the greatest change ever made, now you can actually build for that ascension with out hoping for RNG or taking a specific origin.
However does one even have to be spiritualist anymore to go psionic? Hardcore materialists can now go psionic?
Yes.
Only the Origin "Teacher of the Shrouds" locks you in the Psionic path, every thing else is free for all (except Gestalts).
For long-long time you don't need to be a Spiritualist to became Psionic and weak Materialists could pick it (even if it isn't worth it for them). Even fanatic Materialist could go psionic before but only via rolling a Psionic scientist.
Sad that now game no longer trying to be a space opera and not a cheap fantasy >_<
