4k resolution support > expansion
I've been dying to get back into Stellaris, yet everytime I start a new game I realize I can't suffer how bad and blurry the UI is on 4k, so I quit and move to some other game. Please Paradox... can we get a UI update that can shore up Stellaris to the standards from your latest titles? CK3 and Victoria3 are gorgeous on 4k displays- Stellaris is missing out. Net result: no point in purchasing DLCs because I can't play them.

Hello Romantic,
i play with 4k (HDR) borderless window and with:
- UI scaling 1.5
- mod UI Overhaul Dynamic
- mod UI Overhaul Dynamic - Extended Topbar
- mod UI Overhaul Dynamic + Tiny Outliner v2
- mod UI Overhaul Dynamic - Improved Text
(in this order)
And it's fantastic! :winter2019coolyul: (plus my ui color mod's....) :winter2019joyfultearsyul:
I hope you try it again with Stellaris! :mailedfist:

Of course it is a shame that PDX 4K neglected......

I use UI Overhaul, tiny outliner, and improved text as well. I love stellaris but wouldn't be able to play it without those mods. The standard text is a blurred mess and the outliner is about 4x bigger than tiny outliner. I wish paradox would fix this in game as well, because one day the mod maintainer might no longer be able to update it.

3% of steam users play at 4K resolution.
So they either make expansion for 97% of players.
Or they try to please you.
I dunno mate, tough decision for company. Especially if game have mods that could atleast fix some issues with that.

Letting you configure font-sizes, key bindings, and many other UI tweaks like this have been part of games for over 20 years now as accessibility features. The stat you're quoting is meaningless. Many laptops comes with 1440p screens, or even 1080p screen, that are too small to be readable for a large amount of people. I used to play on a 27" 1440p and had to run the UI at 1.2x with a UI Overhaul 1080p just to be able to enjoy the game. What matters is DPI, and Steam don't track this.

Today I run a 4k 27" screen and without proper scaling and mods, this game is simply unplayable instead of barely playable. I don't have this issue with other games that are just as old like Factorio because they care about their players; and they didn't release a dozen paid DLC since release to finance those kind of features.

All we need, is a good TrueType font like the one UI Overhaul Dynamic - Improved Text uses, and some additional settings in the menu to adjust various font-sizes in the game independently of UI element sizes.

If the screen is blurry and illegible at 4k then it's a wonder even 3% of the player base uses it at all. Their argument treats a dynamic variable as if it were static. Presumably, if one fixed the resolution problems at 4k, then more of the player base would use 4k.

if there's a mod that can do it, why is it so hard for the devs to make it an option in the settings menu? Stop letting them off, the ongoing cost of playing this game is huge, and a lot more people would play at 4k if it worked properly

You are quoting a post from 2023. As a general rule i would recommend to not necro old threads, its considered bad forum etiquette.

It was 3% of Steam, not 3% of the Stellaris players. Now days its between 4-5% of Steam* (since again, his post was years ago). Spending any significant amount of development budget on something such a small minority of the playerbase could use is questionable at best.

On the other hand, adding a higher resolution UI shouldn't be that much work, so a large budget shouldn't be necessary. So i wouldn't necessarily argue against it either.

*Based on Steams hardware survey.
