Starting next to Fanatical Purifiers
This keeps happening and every time it does I'm forced to restart. The damned AI gets 43% faster fire rate (33% from fanatical purifiers, 10% for militarist which they get 50% of the time as either that or spiritualist is required), 33% more naval capacity, and -25% ship cost right from the start. There is no freaking way I can keep up with that.

I keep starting next to them, it's frustrating to even have them in a galaxy with you. It's impossible if they spawn next door. What are the best tactics for dealing with a neighbor who gets all those bonuses? 40-50 years into the game they will outgun you easily. Even allies are useless. Just keep restarting every time your neighbor is a fanatical purifier? That seems dumb.

Git gut

More seriously, focus heavily on alloy production and try churning out as big a as you can fleet and entering an alliance with someone else who's threatened by the Purifiers. Also look for chokepoints you can fortify to stay alive.

I started next to two as a fanatic xenophile megacorp lol.

It's actually kind of a good thing.. because the one thing they don't have is friends. Grab some friends, and team up against them, grabbing all of their systems for free.

Basically play defensive, hold a choke point, until you can grab some allies or over-power them. It's a lot harder on higher difficulties but on lower ones fanatic purifiers tend to die early.

fortify a chokepoint between you and reinforce it with your fleet. should keep you safe for quite a while unless you slack on your fleet.

Okay, how do I PAY for alloy production to keep up with purifiers? Latest game (I quit again) I had about 8 worlds, 30 or so alloy production and -150 energy per turn. I was selling EVERYTHING to try and pay for my fleet/starbase cost. Also while I was sending my fleet down to defend my territory my ally sent his fleet up north to nowhere. So while I was getting killed by 7000 fleet power against my measly 3500, my ally's 4000 fleet power was moving back and forth doing nothing. Literally nothing. I lost 2 planets and about 6 starbases before I gave up and quit.

just don't declare war on them if you can get strong enough they will not attack you eventully you can claim all their systems

Go to another one of their neighbors and do a Non-Agression pact. If you can, form a federation, so do diplomacy for your traditions.

Then, do a favorable trade with them.

The idea is to make you a lower priority on the to kill list while ramping up the consequences if they declare war on you.
