Fallen Empire RP playthrough?
I wonder if other people have played this way. idea is only you and fallen empires plus crisis (super late game year though) and then max out primitives

you play super tall, let primitives rise up and try and curate the galaxy, eventually war in heaven starts and you more or less are a fallen empire also. Sort of a fun Babylon 5 vorlon playstyle. you also set difficulty to max everything so the AI can catch up quickly so the game isnt super duper easy. and the crisis is super super hard

i sort of like seeing one super high tech titan obliterate a primitive fleet :)

I ran a playthrough like that on 3.7 (max galaxy size, 0 AI, 5x pre-FTLs, marauders and fallen empires). The pre-FTLs basically leapt into space to fill the void, and I ended up with a pretty standard galaxy that runs about 50 years behind. The map slanted heavily to authoritarians, hive minds and machines. It didn't really hold my interest long enough to see the crisis, I was more interested in figuring out the changes they'd made to the pre-FTL mecahnics.

I call this kind of set-up an ascension game. And yes, this was almost one of the first custom game set-ups I did when Stellaris was released (you had to be a little bit creative when trying to get this kind of custom game, but basically that was it, yes).
The reason for me were two things:
1. I love the exploring part of the game the most and wanted to have it nearly exclusive for me.
2. I wanted to see how robust the "past-game-creation"-creation process would be in generating new empires. And I was pleased with what I saw - so much that I played several such runs.
On a side note: Newly evolved empire species are tasty. Nom-nom-nom.

It's much easier to do this with mods too.

I suggest Zenith of Fallen Empires to become an actual Fallen Empire not just a Fallen Empire in name only.

Well i guess it's not even in name only, more like Estonia trying to be Scandinavian situation.

Also another setup you try do is pick "cluster starts" and have like 5-6 empires on a map that usually has way more, maybe some fallen empires if you want, and tons of primitives.

The result is hopefully a sort of EU4 like colonization of the galaxy.

Haven't tried it but i kind of want to now.
