Questions regarding robotics
So I was going for a corporate empire, materialistic and all that.

And I always built robotics early on. I mean... more population means more power, right?

Then in the middle of 2300s this fallen spiritual empire suddenly waged war on me because of my position towards AI.

I had 2 options;

A. Renounce AI altogether, thus crippling my economy forever.

B. Surrender immediately. Which I did, and they actually executed my president.

And a decade later, they did it again.

So I thought this might be a good chance to ask the forum a bit about robotics.

1. In the scenario above, any suggestions what I should've done?

2. Aside from being hated by spiritual empires, are there downsides to robot workers? Because seems to me the extra population is just crazy-good. And I find that the occasional AI revolt quite easy to squash.

3. Related to question 2, in a materialistic empire, is there a reason not to make robotics?

In short, I don't think I properly understand the pros and cons of robotics altogether.

Thx!

robots and extra pops are always good, however the largest downside to robots is their energy use, their alloy use to be built, and overall slow population growth since they have to be built. That and diplomacy speaking people just dont like you sometimes.

Also in some crisis scenarios robots can uprise / revolt in major outcomes

1. with fallen empires, if they take a dislike to you for some reason, you just gotta live with their particular issues until you can fight them off. the really fun thing to do with the spirituallist one is to go full robotic ascension and eventually take them over to convert them into robots as well. last time i did that i kept their pops on their crappy worlds as their species and converted everyone on the capital.

2. there's the job strata issue, but that goes away as the game progresses and you get droids/synths. there can also be issues if you don't give them equal rights and with one of the crisis events but beyond that there really isn't any downside.

3. weird rp?

wait what patch are you playing on?

last time I remember FEs imposing their ideology like this without being angered was pre-2.0

The only thing that should be triggering a Holy Guardian FE to declare war on you in the current game is colonizing a holy world or severely and intentionally angering them by claiming their systems, insulting them, declaring them your rival or something like that.

to answer question 1, assuming your playing on a relatively current patch, you could have avoided angering them in the first place

Thx everybody. Regarding the issue of FE not known to attack other empires for robots alone, I am playing on current version, yet their war goal is set on ridding me of using AI. Weird...

i've experienced it in the past but only when i shared borders with them. they kept demanding i ban ai and did a humiliation war when i refused. if you can somehow get their opinion of you above -100 they should stop sending demands

answer to 3: if you go the cybernetics ascenion path you can use your robot facilities to build cyborg pops instead

it takes a bit longer but you have less different 'Species' to manage
