Ancient Refinery
I keep getting this tech and I don't know why? Is it vanilla or from a mod? It's a building that produces 3 gas/crystal/motes for 34 minerals. It's just so ridiculously overpowered I have to restrain myself from using it.

It's vanilla, or rather from the Ancient Relics DLC. The only downside is that it costs Minor Artifacts to construct But yes, it's quite overpowered.

Its vanilla and its basically _the_ arche-tech.
Not sure why they didn't nerf it yet.

It's a 3 in 1 building, that also boosts relevant buildings
What kind of nerfs would you propose? Choosing only one of the bonuses? Either be a 3 in 1, or a booster?

It should be one per Empire, and/or it should consume Minor Relics as upkeep. If you've got a good minerals income you can just put one per planet and you'll never have to worry about gas/crystal/motes for the rest of the game. It makes me feel guilty just using it.

It the Ancient Relics DLC, they added a lot of stuff to it in a semi-recent update around the time the First Contact DLC dropped.

Lol, not the slightest bit OP. Stop demanding everything cool and useful to get nerfed.

Are you insane? That's enough strategic resources to have a fully upgraded Alloy factory, Research labs AND civilian industries, purely from one building.

Yea. For a rare ancient tech you need to buy DLC for? Completely ok.

Its definitely good for what it is but its not game breaking, btw you could also just not research Archeology
TcT Goth98 May 30, 2023 @ 11:54am
And you need to use one of your VERY limited ascension perks to even get the full use out of it. Lol, not OP at all!
pipo.p May 30, 2023 @ 12:03pm
Yes, with the ascension perk, the Ancient Factory also boosts other strategic resource jobs on the planet...

If it is OP, what to say about most of major relics, like the Cybrex artifact, or the Baol one?
Bumc May 30, 2023 @ 12:05pm
Wait, you don't have to use ascension perk for it.
You just build one on every single planet and spend the rest of the game buying every other resource from AI because they overvalue rare resources so much, cannot run out of space to store them and this building grants 4x regular rare per building slot.

Unless its something fixed by very recent patches, ancient refinery is a complete game changer.

Not true in the slightest, lol.

Personally I would remove the base +25% boost. So just 3-in-1, and a 15% boost with Archaeo-Engineers.

One per empire seems excessive, but I would be okay with a minor artifact upkeep cost. It is pretty powerful so that seems reasonable.

While it is true that you do need an ascension perk to get an extra 15% boost, and thus "full use" out of it, it is still amazingly powerful or even arguably OP without that. Before they introduced that building I had to make choices about when and how to use gas/crystals/motes, but now once I research that building I just turn on all the related edicts and leave them on with no shortages (and often sell excess for energy because there's just so much). It turns those formerly precious resources into common resources like energy or minerals.

I love the building. Great for when the rng Gods deny you rare resources on the map. Great addition to the game.
