Dear Developers: Hyper Relays and Gateways
First, I would like to ask could we please get the ability to destroy Hyper Relays and Gateways if we want? Sometimes the AI spam these in every owned system and, especially for the Hyper Relays, I don't want the burden of a galaxy painted with Hyper Relays and Gateways. I like to build these and their associated networks for reasons but never in such a wasteful fashion. My biggest issue with this was in one game where my economy was in shambles after a Crisis war and the hundreds of energy upkeep on the Hyper Relays was a significant impediment to recovery.
Also could we please allow for Gateways to be built without abandoned Gateways being in the galaxy at start? A minor thing but it would be a nice quality of life improvement if for example they are unlocked by researching Hyperspace 3 and either Hyper Relays or the L-Gate activation?
Again, minor points but they would be nice for quality of life.

I always force spawn a single AI empire with the black crown origin. This guarantees that a single gateway exists to trigger the tech appearing, without littering the galaxy with a bunch of slightly out of position ones.

make sure you select it first. Pretty sure the command works on gateways.

If you're not in Ironmode, sure, that's a way to do it...

Thank you, I had forgotten about this option. A solid choice to make sure but it would still be nice if there was another option. After all, in our own history the same technology has been arrived at separately with different methods. The added realism to make the fiction more solid would be nice.

I was hoping for a method in Ironman but thank you for providing this for my non-Ironman games.

while they are at it habitats so we do not have to use a colossus for it. at least with that there is a way without console even if it would waste a ascension perk if we did not want to get a colossus.

Gateways i understand but hyper relays? I can't imagine wanting to get rid of those.

Gateways are broken as hell. I hate them so much.
If you have a fleet in the system with one, it breaks the fleets navigation to other systems. Where it'll want to go through a longer route through a gateway instead of getting to a system that's right next to it. And sometimes, it prevents entry into other systems next to you forcing you to use a jumpdrive.

it helps more than it hinders. like reinforcing fleets and being able to traverse long distances or secluded territories. i at least have them where i have my main shipyards. a lot of times the enemies having many of them helps the aggressor no mater how the landscape changes during a war with allies and reinforcements. after wars i do agree it would be nice to be able to remove them a lot of times it makes no sense for them being in some places.

That would be nice, being able to destroy all smaller "mega-projects".

I find Gateways useful as I usually link my shipyards to my borders and important systems for instant reinforcement. As for hyper relays they have been an occasional problem for me. As mentioned above one really bad Crisis War left the galaxy in a bad state and the upkeep, while small per system, as I rebuilt my highly damaged empire was problematic due to infrastructure and population loss. Sometimes gateways and hyper relays seem to compete for navigation which made me jump fleets to a different system to allow my fleets to navigate again. I have also had navigation issues caused by hyper relays before where my ships use a longer relay route instead of simply flying to the next system over. The latter two are one offs probably but still worth noting.
