Game is unplayable after update
- Mouse doesn't hoover over the buttons, just off to the right. Can't even access Earth in the planet list. After trying to click Earth on the map, game crashes. Alt+Tab workaround doesn't work for me, it spits me towards desktop and I can't access the game back.
- Graphics are out of focus.
- I had an amazing set of leaders because of the brain slug host boosting most of my researchers with 10-15% bonuses of various kinds. They are now all gone.
- Simplifying leaders only by level is no fun. It was wonderful to get genius spark leaders for science and anomaly experts for exploration.
- To drain unity for leaders is ridiculous. You need at least 3 exploration leaders going in every direction, 1 specialist for your anomalies and 1 for excavation. Plus you need an extra leader because they can be elected to president. This is on top of the governors, admirals and generals you need. Your unity is vital otherwise you won't get ahead in the game. Your leaders are vital otherwise you're understaffed. Having to make one choice over the other is insane.

I haven't found what else you changed but this doesn't look promising. I can't play the game anyway because the mouse does not even touch the buttons. I can't even change resolution because the mouse doesn't hit the sliders.

PLEASE ROLL BACK!

Use the launcher to change the settings to 'borderless window' you should then be able to play the game.

Paradox know about it - they've changed to DX11 which causes this problem.

I'm running DX12. Is that a problem?

Thanks, the borderless window setting seems to fix it.

I'm still pissed I lost all my 'brain slug' leaders.

I can't access Earth. Game crashes immediately.

The update itself might need a balance pass, as for Direct X, we used to have the option of DX9 or DX11. DX 11 causes the bug we're looking at and until they patch it we're stuck with workarounds.

Alt-Enter also sometimes work, but for the time being they've told us to change to window or borderless window.

The fact you're using DX12 won't matter in this case.

Edit: Try verifying the files if Stellaris starts playing up.

Nope. I play on borderless window, all buttons seem to be working except for Earth. If I click on it, the game crashes. The Alt workarounds don't work for me.

I did verify the integrity of the game files. That's all good.

Ummm - are you playing an old save? It might be that, however I've seen reports that some users can't roll back either, so you might be stuck.

Sorry I can't help you further.

Yeah I'm playing a save that I just saved earlier today. This was a very promising start with my brain slug scientists, good systems rich in materials and science, a relic world within grasp and I already gained a vassal.

But I'm gonna roll back. This update is awful. Just awful.

Re " mouse doesn't hover over buttons"

I had this issue and MrFreake_PDX answered, instructing as follows:

"In the launcher, go to Game Settings, and ensure that your resolution is set correctly. Also choose Borderless fullscreen or windowed mode.

Since we've also recently transitioned to DX11, you can try updating your drivers."

That fixed it for me. Works fine now. I didn't need to mess with DirectX as my system has DirectX12 and that is AFAIK backward compatible with DirectX11.

That problem has been fixed by now. I just can't access Earth because once I click it, the game crashes. There's probably a feature in there in the old save that the new update doesn't like.

And I want my brain slug leaders back!

How often do we have to tell you people that old saves are not going to work with full feature DLC releases? Roll back or deal with it. There is no fix.

Do you see this? 93 research bonus for society and engineering because of spark of genius + brain slug + specialty bonus. There's no way I'm gonna say goodbye to that. I was playing like this earlier today, and why should a dubious update spoil my very promising game.

This is the first time in my life that I resorted to a rogue version of a game I already own to rollback.

If anyone knows a legal way to roll back, please let me know.
