Do DLCs effect currently running saves?

I was thinking about wether to buy the Utopia DLC. Personally, I think I'd enjoy playing with this DLC but I am uncertain wether it affects current saves. Is it possible to add a DLC or not? And if yes, would still be the whole content available or would there be limiations?

educated guess, it would work but with limitations. Some things only happen at game start, for example empire generation, so you wont uddenly have a hive ind empire or anything. Id imagine you could use the new features on an old save tho

So would you say, buying the DLC only for the available features, would be worth it?

I mean, yeah, its probably the best DLC. IDK if Id buy it for one game tho.
I *think* *most* of the features will *probably* work fine but im not 100%
so if you wanna get it for this game and all future ones def worth it. if you getting it for some kinda edge in your current game, i dont wanna tell you buy it and have it not work right

You game should run fine, just don't expect the new features to be there in your current save.

Depends on the features.
In this case, if you haven't finished all your traditions and ascension perks then you should be able to pick an ascension path. You should also get mega-engineering to research and build megastructures.

Great choice of DLC. As others have said, some things might take effect immediately, while others would require a new game. I'd guess it mostly has to do with whether something had to be created at game/galaxy initiation or whether it just appears now as an option.
