Is the Shroud now hot garbage?

Nothing, NOTHING chews through your leaders like the shroud. Everything being randomised means a bunch of bad rolls will snipe out your best leaders, often at key moments. While I understand this part of the RNG aspect of the shroud, I dunno, with the new leader focused DLC i would have thought that something might have been done to weight the shroud towards eating younger, less effective leaders.

For instance, due to an early anomaly, I had a scientist become immortal. She was slowly climbing the high levels into the late game, served a few terms as president, and had nearly half a dozen empire wide bonuses. Literally more valuable to me than any legendary leader I might recruit, her science ship only ever left my borders under the escort of battleships. It was easy to imagine her story as this cool, timelocked scientist who helped her people reconnect with their lost homeworld, researched dozens of critical breakthroughs, and trained whole generations of scientists on our homeworld.

Snatched by the shroud because I rolled to boost my ships evasion. Just gone.

It seems that the cyborg ascension/genetic ascension is absolutely the way to play if you want strong leaders. No chance of random demon infestation, boosted leader lifespan and EXP gain. . .just better over all. And that is very frustrating, because if you DON'T gamble with the shroud, you aren't getting the best bonuses it can offer, but that means you have to put up with the shrouds constant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

It's almost like new leader system wasn't all that well thought out, besides being a perfect way to sell a DLC.

Psionics do feel like they got the short end of the stick. All the other paths get their increased lifespan guaranteed, while for psionics you have to get lucky (and any hired after you get it don't get it until you roll it again). And keeping your starting leaders alive through the entire game is of paramount importance now if you want to see destiny traits, and those are just too powerful to not get.
