Opinion on Empire Build
Just wanted to see what everyone thinks of a build I am working on.
Ethics: Authoritarian, Militarist, Materialist
Civics: Distinguished Admiralty, Meritocracy
Government: Oligarchy

Race Traits: Intelligent, Natural Engineers, Industrious, Wasteful, Unruly

Origin: Remnants

My plan was to rush military techs for conquest and alien Pops, expanding until I had a large swathe of territory. Then use my tech bonuses to heavily develop my empire.

Wasteful will bite you in the butt early game if you don't know what you're doing. Unruly will do the same late game, but it should be easier to mitigate by the time it might become a problem. Natural engineers is unnecessary for anything but a RP build, as is industrious (EC is king, Ingenious is always the better choice).

Any other issues? Like the civics or origin? Any criticism is helpful.

Mmm, for your intended playthrough, I'd probably drop materialist altogether and replace it with fanatic militarist. I'm okay with distinguished admiralty, but I'd probably find something other than meritocracy.

How about going fanatic militartist, and replacing meritocracy with citizen service?

The "natural" scientist perks are great, besides the bonus it also adds an ethic weight toward materalism. So this helps keeping the weirdo ethics in check.

Example you can perfectly play psionic materialists, without a spiritualist faction being able to sustain itself.

Citizen service is good, but you're losing a little bit of it's use if you're not occasionally dropping down fortress habitats, or making fortress world. I didn't suggest it because I had it in my head it needs egalitarian for some reason. Don't know why I was thinking that.

Factions are such an insignificant part of the game, I always find it weird when people bring them up (even weirder when someone complains about a rebellion. I've never had it happen and I've played since launch. Someone explain to me how this happens!) Man, I should have put a faction overhaul as one of the things I'd like to see on that survey from the Devs the other day. DANG!

Yeah, totally insignificant when like 25% of your pops have 0% approval

I don't know what to tell you. I've never had that problem.

I'd say it is possible to play the game without understanding half the mechanics.

Where is Rapid Breeder or Incubator?

And yes, factions matter.

So, would a better build be:
Fanatic Militarist
Authoritarian

Civics:
Distinguished Admiralty
Citizen Service

Traits: Intelligent, Rapid Breeders, Natural Engineers, Wasteful, Unruly

Origin: Remnants
