there is no GUI for it, but you can script significant parts of the galaxy to be a certain way, most easily your starting and nearby systems.

i think there is also a way to turn images into maps? theres a few of those on the workshop iirc.

just would be nice to set all the spawns in the galaxy so you dont get trapped or cut off early in the game forcing a restart or a massive switch in strategy. i know these are newb complaints but if im tryna play w a friend (he's a newb) and we have to constantly restart its annoying and quite time consuming. empires are either 5-6 jumps from ur home world, theres a tiyanki matriarch at a close choke point or a 10k fleet of something cutting you off from the galaxy. almost impossible for 2 people to get a good start somebody always get the short end of the stick

A bit of a trick you might try is setting all the AI to "advanced empires" but then also disallowing them to spawn near you. Won't help with the leviathan/drone chokepoints but should give you a bit more breathing room (whether you're going to find it fully playable that way once your borders join, I dunno).

you can fix a lot of that by loading up the game in singleplayer and going to town with the console.

e.g. in the absolute worst case you can just create a hyperlane between your two home systems. but with some creativity a more organic solution can no doubt be found.

(or try out the new coop mode? might be boring for you as the experienced player since you don't want to take the reigns, but you can help your friend out when he runs into issues.)
