Really slow since version 3.8
Hi,

I haven't played Stellaris in a long time but want to start playing again. However since updating to 3.8 the game is no longer playable. Everything is lagging and the display is really unresponsive and jumpy. It's so hard to even scroll around, nothing happens when you start moving and then it jumps past where you wanted to go.

I have no mods installed in the current play-set.

The game used to playable if a bit slow towards the end game, but now it's so bad a can't play.

Anyone else having this problem.

Cheers
Dave

In my games, as soon as someone declares war, everything grinds to a halt, but it's otherwise acceptable on 200-400 star galaxies with minimal planets and habitats disabled.

for me the game slows down to about 1 in game day per second on small maps once most of the map is discovered, and starts of at 1 day per second at larger maps....

once the game is slowed down to 1 day per second, the game speed setting has no effect anymore, as any speed turns to just 1 day per second

like, 1 day per second is still playable but I wish i could speed it up more late game

On my system its take 2-3 seconds for 1 game day on Fastest.

Also, I use the keyboard cursor keys to pan around the screen. If I press a cursor key it takes at least 2 seconds before there is any screen movement , if I hold it down nothing for a while then it jumps way past where I want to look.

No Mods Installed.

What have they done to cripple this game? Are they likely to fix it anytime soon?

No.

Great! Just what I wanted to hear! Is it possible to roll back to a playable version?

Yes!
Paradox keeps older versions around under 'Betas'.
Right click your game in the library, go to Properties and then Betas. Should figure it out from there.

No difference on my end compared to any other recent version.

While Leaders tabs is still incredibly laggy - everything else aren't changed since 3.7 so you should have extra lags (I don't).

I found 3.8 unplayable on a whole host of grounds. I've rolled back to 3.6 which was, in my opinion a far stronger state of play for the game than at present.

I haven't been playing for around a year, I think I was using 3.5 or 3.6 before and it was playable. Now on 3.8 it's not. The version I was playing didn't have the "Leader Cap" but it did have "Empire Sprawl".

Brand new owner here. Takes forever to load, and I have a reasonably powerful laptop.

i have to say... get off the laptops.. even when they say they are gamer builds... they just are not equiped to handle some games well.. i played stellaris for several years before i got my currrant full on gaming desktop and it is a load of difference... when i played on the laptop the small cooling fan would just scream trying to keep up with the cooling needs... my new build doesn't even blink and runs smoothly all the way thru to endgame, and i play in huge galaxies with all the settings on max

"All the settings"? How about pop growth? Habitable planets?
