Looking for a space game suggestion
Hello everyone.

lately i have been feeling a need to delve into a territory of games that has been very much undiscovered for me, much because of my own fault, i think of space games as being super complex and that has been preventing me from trying.
I played a few space games in the past like Star Citizen which i don't have any interest in me anymore to get into that game, i also tried No Man's Sky it's more towards crafting and survival but it didn't get my attention.

I have been looking for a good game in space that would have exploration both in planets and space, gathering resources in space and planets, crafting, i wouldn't mind some missions and about graphics i would play anything form great astonishing visuals to pixel art but i didn't manage to find such game plus i don't know which space communities to approach about his, i joined 2 reddit communities about space gaming and on both my post was deleted, maybe here i will be more lucky, if not that's ok, again as i said i gave up about searching for a game with the characteristics mentioned above.

So i decided to turn into strategy space games, i played strategy games like CIV VI, Crusader Kings 3, Total War games, i would love something worthwhile in space this time, space always fascinates me, some features i would like to see in a strategy space game would be of course the exploration part, find planets or entire new galaxies, harvest a different array of resources, management, warfare.

I'm sorry for the long post and i apologize for the rant/vent at the beginning but it has been frustrating to try and find something good to play in space with either s strategy focus or (what i wanted) more leaned towards survival and exploration.
I would love to read your suggestions.

I wish you all a great day, stay safe.

There's always Egosoft's X-series. It's first person and has quite a bit of automation. It also has a fair bit of a learning curve, but I don't find it too bad.

Hello there.
I have looked into a video of spacebourne 2 but i don't know much about that game.
What can we do in there? Is there crafting for example?

You also mention Sins of a Solar Empire 2? Which one that Rebellion or Trinity?

Rebellion and Trinity are expansions of Sins of a Solar Empire. Sins of a Solar Empire 2 is a game still in development.

Empyrion: Galactic Survival might be good for that survival itch.
You could maybe try Distant Worlds or Distant Worlds 2 for space strategy.

Stellaris is in my opinion definitely the best space strategy game.

There's also Endless Space 2, though that's more narrative-focused (not in that it has a campaign, but that there's somewhat of a narrative that goes on in the background of your games.

Starfield will come out on September 6.
in the meantime, play more Stellaris :P
There's also X4: Foundations.

While it's not really strategy, maybe The Ur-Quan Masters[sc2.sourceforge.net] is something for you?
The best thing about it is: It's free.
(Beware though: It's ancient.)

I sunk many many hours into Master of Orion II. It doesn't have crafting per say, but you can customize your ships pretty much any way you like, and playing against an impossible AI on a small map with 4-8 civs will sure feel like OHCRAP survival mode...

1st Stellaris is the go to for space strategy.

If you want other strategy games:
  • Space Relic has a demo you could try. It is turn based and you have to fullfill a certain goal before the AI fulfills its goal. Exploration is a feature.
  • Deadlock II: Shrine Wars - Old Planet colonizer game. Funny to play, easy to learn. But needs a work-around for newer systems.
  • Stars in Shadow: A round based strategy game again. Has a fun combat system. Downside: No tutorial and you have to try different things to figure out how to do anything in the game. The controls are more or less intuitive. I remember struggling finding the fly control.
  • Space Trek The New Empire: Just putting in a Strategy-RPG-Browser-Game, because why not. It's multiplayer only and you can colonize up to 12 colonies (8 planets, 4 asteroids) and have some fleets of ships, while you can also control each ship individually. The main focus is RPG though, so you will have a lot to read and write, when engaging with other players. Could be fun for you though and it's free.

If you are okay with non-strategy games:
  • Cosmoteer: It's more about spaceship construction and using physics to fire weapons and watch the kaboom, but has nice elements to it, like asteroid mining, trade, scavenging, crew management and the construction of course. It is still early access.
  • X-Universe Series: The best space flight and exploration economy game. Survival Aspects: You can die in game but there is no life support. Downside: No landing on planets.
  • AstroX Imperium: Probably checks most your requests in Survival, Mining, Exploration, Building Aspects. However the stations, you can build, are not yet fully implemented. Other than that: It creates a character for you with skills, depending on your starting ship, a randomized universe to explore, if you allow the setting you need life support and food to survive, you can mine and make money, find blueprints to upgrade your weapons, are free to put whatever tool in your ship's slots, you can design own ships and stations, go on missions (The Earth Space Empire was destroyed by some singularity and you are in the post period of that.) All in all it is a fun little space survival game and a contester for Egosofts X-Universe-Series.

Fascinating. I had the most to say about AstroX, despite not being my personal favorite :steamhappy:

Not so honorable mention:
I can't recommend Battlevoid-series here, because of the cheap tricks the developers pulled to increase play time. The game is totally unbalanced and has a too slow XP-gain to make it fun. If either of those problems would be fixed (could have already happened, didn't check) the games would actually be great rouge-likes.

Hello there and thank you so much for your response.
In terms of the game genre i would prefer now it's true that i love strategy but in space i would love to play my own character and explore, build, craft, harvest, trade...more into a rpg or survival aspect of it.

You mention X-Universe series, what gsme is that? Also Astrox seems interesting.
