Started directly next to marauders
They're directly adjacent to my capital. Should I just start over?

it's much more fun when your capital borders xenophobe fallen empire.

If there is another exit it might work out to defend your home system from one direction and they can be usefull for admirals or punishing rivals

Quitting is for losers, you only lose when you give up.

Yeah I think I'll stick with this because I just got an event that gave me a free level 4 admiral

there a benefit if your militant you can blow them up and take their tech/resources. If your peaceful they also cause a bottleneck by limiting the ai's direction they can attack you.

Yeah, also if you have a rival on the far side of your territory from them, you can hire the marauders to raid them for you, let the marauders smash the border fortress (and if you're lucky one or more of their fleets), then swarm in after them.

I like Marauders, I pay them trivial amounts of money to wreck my rival. If they go Khan I just surrender immediately to preserve territory and increase his killing power against my enemies.
Marauders are a gift

^ This. You get special events for neighboring the mauraders that give you small temporary military boosts. Also having immediate contact with marauders means you can hire them to significantly weaken neighbors early in the game. Allowing you to vassalize or annex a bunch of empires rather quickly. Definitely a positive thing to have them nearby.

And if you're playing A/GA - they would never actually go Khan as AIs will care about them before it ^_^

I don't play that high lol, I am a "filthy casual" that plays Ensign as an after-work relaxer.
So it's very useful when thing like Khan and Grey Tempest kick off, I'm usually the only thing that can defend against it that isn't an FE so I get to watch the world burn.

In my most recent game, the Khan spawned just beyond my borders inside the head of a federation that was a perennial invader. Their federation fleet was big enough to mop up the marauders, but because whole starbases get wiped out in the back and forth, I camped out on my border fort, wiped out the marauder fleet that came my way, and then just sailed in with construction ships and enjoyed a nonviolent middle game landgrab. They did all the work, I got all the territory.
