Easy pirate hunting
Do i really need to right click every single system to pirate hunt it?

how can i tell where piracy is without hovering over every system?

is there a way to make fleets go right back to patrolling after upgrade?

Creating a Defensive Station with Hangar modules is a pretty good way of reducing piracy early on the game

Generally speaking piracy is accumulating on trade routes throughout your empire.
In order to check which way they are going, click on Your empire capital starbase. Then select trade routes.
In this menu You will see which systems are prone to piracy. Trade routes can be changed, so You might want to look up on that, but that's not super important.
Easiest way to combat piracy is to set fleet with corvettes on patrol duty, also building starbase hangars and to a lesser degree starbase guns/guidance modules(half the bonus of hangars).

Hangars can be unlocked even at the start of the game. Though it might depend on RNG in engineering research.

Create a fleet of some corvettes, set their spawn point in your home system. Make sure you name them something like "Anti pirate patrol" or "Police Squad" or something similar.

Next, open the trade screen and check along which route you will have an increased risk of piracy.

Now you know that, select your fleet and pick the "patrol" option.
By doing so, the fleet will fly between your home system and the destination you picked and returning to your home system again.

Later, when you got the ability to build the hangar bays in defence stations, you may consider to remove that fleet.

Just keep in mind, when you have researched upgrades, this fleet will show the symbol for it as well. But after you have upgraded them, you will need to reassign them to the patrol route again.

I always make all my trade routes go through systems with a station in it and reroute or remove any trade routes that won't. I wish they would not be auto created...and re-autocreated if I upgrade a station. it should be a manual thing to setup a trade route.

Patrols will work too if they are big enough fleet for the level of piracy...but early on I want all my fleet cap at the boarders.

Open the trade route overlay in the bottom right corner of the UI.
Any skull has piracy, but that's irrelevant. Pirates cannot spawn from them.
Any RED skull means that piracy will rise above the amount of trade protection you have.

Either increase trade protection with hangar modules, build stations in those system (since stations prevent all piracy), or use corvettes to suppress piracy.

Corvettes should only ever be a "last resort" option though. You do not want to use patrols if you don't have to since they're highly inefficient when it comes to upkeep and opportunity costs.
