Consumer Goods are a pain
I am not able to keep them positive. I had a big empire, +50 consumer goods ONE TIME. And then, from then to another, war started -BAM instantly -100.

Probably because a planet specialization swapped to Foundry World.
Kael Dec 11, 2022 @ 6:46am
Maybe - but that shouldnt happen. I had an Empire with around 50 planets. Now its all split into so many factions just because something happen

I couldnt fix it while in war, cause i cant find the issue. Everyone gets worse, happiness down, less production - whole empire collapsed.

I dont get it that something happen when before, everything was positive. i mean, really positive.

A variety of things can impact consumer goods output: civics can boost specialist production (or directly boost consumer goods output) - if those are swapped out you will see a decrease.

If you have monthly trades on the market, make sure that the max price you’ve set is above the buy price on the market - if the market price goes over, you stop buying the goods.

If you’re trading directly with an empire, that trade can stop for a number of reasons: deal expires, they go to war with you, or they can no longer produce enough to fulfill the deal.

If one of your factory (consumer goods) worlds has a bunch of other jobs open, artisans might swap jobs to something else.

Could be any number of reasons, but you haven’t provided enough details to be sure.

What’s more is once there’s a deficit, you have time to react before severe negative consequences impact your empire - why didn’t you buy more consumer goods on the market or something until you could resolve the situation?

Pops use consumer goods, the more pops you have the more consumer goods you need.

With 50+ planets you really should not have any trouble with your economy and certainly your "best" should not have been a paltry +50 consumer goods. So I'll go on a limb and go with the oldest advice of "git gud".

Choose a couple of planets and turn them into manufactories: as many industrial sectors as you can put in, specialize the planet, civilian industry and upgrade it asap and you'll get hundreds upon hundreds of consumer goods.

i had planets, completly industrialize- but i dont know why -> you can only build 1 civilian factory on a planet. Not 3-4 like in older game stages. So i need more planets to specialize on just this thing. But i dont get how this should work out on the long term. When i was able, in earlier builds, to build more than 1 civilian factory on a planet -> no problem. Never problems with them.

But with the new stage with just 1 civilian factory i dont get it

YOu need to build industrial districts. The civilian factory and alloy forge buildings are meant to boost the resources produced by the jobs created by the districts, this was changed many months ago.

If you're so bad at running your economy then play a machine or hivemind who don't use consumer goods.

Best short term solution used to be the trade policy consumer benefits but now you need the Mercantile Tradition for that.

It makes me wonder how this person managed to have a CG surplus to begin with.

OP it seems like you still need to learn the basics of the game, the economy is not hard to balance once you know the fundamentals.

I'll go again: there are two industrial buildings you can put on your planets, one for consumer goods and one for alloys. *But* those buildings are not meant to serve as your entire industrial base but rather to augment the production that you are (or at least should be) getting from industrial districts.

Build industrial districts then build the appropriate building once you've decided if that planet should be producing alloys or consumer goods.

I feel given his threads OP really should start paying attention to the answers and the game in general. And this isn't meant as offensive as it's probably coming across so apologies in advance.

But like, that he didn't even saw that instead of buildings districts are responsible for consumer goods - and alloy - jobs and thus didn't build a single specialized planet for neither consumer goods nor alloys despite having a big empire says very very much.

Also @OP if you build the industrial districts you can change what jobs it provides via planet specialization. Foundry = 2 alloy jobs, civilian factories = 2 consumer good jobs and all other specializations provide 1 each.

Thus even when you have a customer good deficiency you could within 1 day switch production away from alloys to CG and vice versa
