Playing the game blind with difficulty settings maxed out....
Would this playstyle be foolhardy, or perhaps a good way to get the most out of the game if you have a few hundred hours to spare?

I'm going to try playing this way to start with but get the feeling Paradox games may not be compatible with blind runs as there are so many buttons and menus and that i'll rage quit by sending my fleet of mushroom men into the nearest black hole

in fact i am slightly worried i shall end up like this... see next post

Im just going todo a Normal difficulty , largest galaxy size as humanity for my first run.

No need to make it overly hard to learn a new game.

sounds good, i can't decided whether i want to be humans spawning at Earth or the Blorg mushrooms that the Paradox video log run is using...

humans sounds better possibly for immersion, experiencing the wonder of first contact...

Well since it will be my first steps in the game it seems fitting to play humanity taking its humble first few steps into the galatic stage. :D:

However I still do have many many many other play styles i cant wait to try from warrior races, to purging thocratic empires.

i like the idea of a Blorg-style "no violence and let's be friends with everyone" run although that may be impossible to do

I mean it seems you can trry and build a very large allience, but there will always be xenophobes who dislike you.

in real life i can't stand xenophobes so i may crush the ones in the game..

but that might be un-Blorg like so maybe i'm best just letting them hate me even it means annihilation for my species lol

Any idea of what ethics you are going to pick? I was thinking of some sort of religious humans and do some sort of galactic crusade. Space crusade!!

I will play the Blorg as my first few test runs until I feel comfortable with the mechanics. After that I'm going to be one of those people who rolls humans and never looks back. I'll probably play on the largest galaxies to drag out the early game as long as I can.

I'll have to tweak the difficulty until I feel I'm challenged enough but not so much that the game will become frustrating. I'm not a godlike strategist like many of the more veteran Paradox players, so I will probably end up playing on normal.

From what I've seen in the settings you can make it so you're the only Space faring nation at the start, aside from fallen empires and primitives who can become space faring.

Which is pretty much just like most people are going to pick for their first race. Everyone is like "Purge the aliens!", pretty much a cliché by now ;)

Personally i don't know yet for sure. Had quite some fun with my mercantile empire in Endless Space, but so far i don't see a decent use for such an empire in Stellaris (no trade going on?).

But i'm probably going for an Science Directorate on the first try based on Fanatic Materialist + Pacifist ethos. Traits would be intelligent (+10% science output each) + rapid breeders (-10% growth time) + weak (-20% army damage), since i'm not going for any planetary invasions.

there was me thinking that i was being original. i thought that usually we are ultra diplomatic in space games. i just want to spread our true relgion, all are free to join, any who resist will be cleansed! like your ideas though :)

Space Crusade is fun, but has become overly popular with the increased awareness of Warhammer 40k. I'll get around to that on my third or fourth playthrough, but...

I'm thinking snobby, slow-reproducing quasi-Immortal overlords with a penchant for uplifting lesser civilizations and using them as second-class citizens/slave labor.
