What does Automation On/Off do?
I gave resources to a sector and set two planets to automated management "on" to see what it would do, but it also built on some set to "off". What is that button for if it doesn't control that?

AFAIK, it does control that, but sector automation setting overrides it.

Well no. Automated planets ARE controlled by the sector controls. Planets not on Automation are fully under your control, regardless of what the sector is told to do.

After further testing I've found that it only works if I disable sector build but automate certain planets, for some reason. Maybe bugged or so. With sector build turned on it will build on them, automated or not.

I think the intentional use is to automate individual planets in a sector, instead of the whole sector. SO if the whole sector is already automated the button does nothing.

This could be clarified by having planet automation buttons greyed/disabled when sector automation is enabled. Because the present situation causes false interpretations and actions to be persued.

Just hit this, ????? like why so confusing

Because in stellaris there are two kind of automation: planet and sector, planet automation follow planet designation so in fortress planet it will try to built fortress but it will still count other needs first like amenities or criminal rate. If you turn off planet designation but turn on sector automaton on then it will activate sector automation, it will ignore planet designation and follow your sector setting instead.

Only if you build the feature yourself so that you know exactly what each does.

Sector automaton demand all infrastructures and production chains.

It follow into category of the 3 rare resources.

Research demand exotic gas and rare crystals and factories but can't use any other buildings who demand luxuries.

Foundries demand only explosive moles.

Exclude research labs and luxuries are pointless. Holo theatres don't use it, administration don't use it. It is only a requirement if you use research labs.

I'll just assume this wasn't a response to my post, because it makes no sense whatsoever.
To clearify to someone who don't understand the mechanics in the game stellaris. Luxuries is a resource but the resource provide buffs who can be obtained by other sources. Luxuries make you able to obtain research points from research labs. But buildings who do not provide research points are 100% fully functional without the resource luxuries. If you have a research laboratory on any planet you'll have to have a positive number of luxuries to make the building function. But any other building who demand luxuries are still working without it.

The automaton is made of already built builds who are not great. It construct buildings who steal the resources you need to research.

It build things who are unnecessary like heritage sites and it randomly build a building to occupy all slots.

Because alloy is made from a foundry it is called a foundry and the foundry need a rare resource to upgrade. It only need one rare resource.

The research laboratory need two resources. It first need exotic gases to upgrade and secondary it need rare crystals to upgrade the factories. A factory is a factory making luxuries.

All other buildings are subjective. You don't need them since the goal in the game is twofold. First is to research and secondary is to build ships. To research you need a resource to boost the research and the best way to obtain it is from a laboratory. Research points are obtained from a laboratory when you have enough luxuries by the end of each month. To obtain luxuries you need a factory. The factory need a resource called rare crystals to upgrade. To upgrade the laboratory you need a resource called exotic gases. The factory has the basic need of minerals by the end of each month.

Once you have enough research points. You want to focus on other things like buildings who are not research laboratory but still demand luxuries but you don't want both activated at the same time. Even if you don't have the luxuries the only building who actually uses luxuries are the laboratories. Besides the laboratories your population uses luxuries.

But what actually doesn't uses luxuries is all other buildings who do not provide research point.

i'd suggest them learn how to read the tooltip instead of coming up with some conclusion
and dont depend on shortage
