Surrounded by empires. How do I get out - without total war ? Singleplayer
Hello buddies. I love Stellaris but I am still a noob. Now I am totally surrounded by empires, and i cant get out without a total war. I have tried different things. Border access for for civilians, alliance, non aggressive pledge. Nothing works. I am sure I have missed something obvious.
So now I am locked inside- surrounded.

Can anyone help. Thanks..............

Embassies. Make some friends. And build your fleet. And put a spaceport on every planet.

There's certain end game events that will wreck empires. The AI, last I played, was completely impotent against some of them, including an event involving the Unbidden.

Anyhow, if the AI completely refuses to allow you past their borders, all around you, you might just have to pick the weakest one with the most free space behind them, and try and beat your way through. Congratulations, you now know how most European states felt back in the 18th-19th century.

Research AI or jump drive. If not, wait for Chthulu to come for a visit.

Then your galaxy will free up quite a bit.

But as you are right now. Here's an old wize phraze.

''If you want peace, prepare for war.''

You think they were complaining about lack of mid- and lategame content and instead were bogged down in micromanagement (still no "Upgrade all buildings button"!)? Huh, that might actually be true in a weird way.

I also hate this. No real fix other then restarting the game or going to war generally. The AI doesn't like easily letting you through w/o a lot of work.

I always start off sending my starting military out scouting all around seeing who is near by. If I'm surrounded real close I generally just restart as I usually am a grow type player. What I really hate is when the game puts all the empires in one area and leaves another large area completely empty. Really think the devs need to come up with a better system for placing empires in a bit more evenly disperse them.

I've even had games I have found within 2 systems in every direction another empire which left virtually no room for growth and pretty much threatened to cut me off from my homeworld if I tried to grow past them fast.
I'm not sure I understand the question. What do you mean, "without total war?"
You should always be striving to bring the aliens death, citizen. Death death death, Dekomori death.

In its current state, there is no other way than war to get rid of neighbors ... or pretty much do anything.
The diplomatic options are just ridiculously small, and the trading is mindnumbingly shallow.

Maybe in 2 years and when the price of the game with its addons will reach 150 dollars or something will this game deliver an appropriate experience.

You cant really expand without taking land from others.

Expansion has always been one of the main reason to wars.

Very early game, you have a window to expand freely, but it doesnt last long.
It is advised to take the maximum you can and to secure free areas with outposts.

Past that, depending on start, you are locked sooner or later (if you are very lucky)

Warp and wormhole will get more range with techs and can help to reach some free parts.

Wars, even not yours, will sometimes destroy outposts or change influence areas and free some parts too.

Civilian access can help too, but some AIs wont trade it.
Alliance members share civilian access in case you dont know, can be worth it to enter an alliance just for that.

Apart from that, if you want new land, you have to take it from someone...

Just wait, if you are patient, the Prethoryns will come. Or, research Psi-Jump Drives and have the Unbidden come say hello.

due to the border friction debuff there is no way to effectively befriend your direct neighbours for a peacful co-existance.

The only way to "peacefully" expand, is to declare a rivalry with your direct neighbour and then ally yourself with the neighbour on their opposite side. then declare war and destroy the empire between you... now you can be all rainbows and unicorns with your new neighbour who helped with the galactic genocide.

You either raise to be a murderous empire of galactic domination alone, or you make a friend or 2 and become a murderous mob to attack minority groups.

I'm not gonna read the replies above me cause i don't want spoilers, but i'm expanding my empire after a rough lesson in my first game that... i just scraped it and started again, and the title of this thread is what i'm "entering" into right now. I've got a few planets, a fleet and ♥♥♥♥, and now when i zoom out to the galaxy map, i'm finding all my AI competitors are....yes, surrounding me lol. you know with their faction color around the areas they control. So, this is going to poise your situation, where i'm gonna have to form alliannces or start ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up my neighbours lol...and so the story continues.. :) :) :)
