The giant space eye that ruins the game.
Let me say firstly that I absolutley love this game. My favorite thing about it is not so much the war stuff (I can play homeworld If I really want that) but the diplomacy and expansion and discovery. There is one particular aspect of the game however which seems to be a HUGE mistake.

Both me and my 2 friends have had to stop our single player games because a giant space eye just ploughs through our empire. There is no way to research it, reason with it, or team up against it (Imagine how cool it would be to lay siege to the scourge of the galaxy with your neighbours, setting down our differences to fight the ultimate galactic evil)!!!!

I cannot figure out why for the life of me the game designers didn't want this to be an option. Instead I have to fight it alone which is impossible as they have regenerating 21k fleet that they seem to be able to just pull out of thin air.

So instead it's just game over ♥♥♥♥ you thanks for trying bye.

They rely heavily on missiles, so point defense is a must. I was able to defeat their biggest 34k fleet with a 22k fleet and a 3k space station using 1x PD on my corvettes. Still, very hard fights, started with a 18k fleet before the war, ended with 25k and produced & lost about 40k in between...

in multiplayer, cant you give your friends military access and allow them to fight with you? They seem to attack everyone, and everyone can attack them...

Oh I have no idea about multiplayer but certainly in single player I can't. I am diplomacy humans though, not the best at building fleets. also can't sustain a large fleet because they have shovelled through my resources. So now it's just a constant struggle as I lose more territory.

if you are lucky they will arrive on the other side of the galaxy, once they take around 20% of the galaxy the rest 'should' unite against them.

Also the AI is stupid about the Crises and doesn't fight them properly.

Well, now you know about them and can plan for them next game (either by massive military buildup and/or alliance building).

2320 or 2330 is earliest year when this space eye can arrive
U can have 100k fleet already at this moment.

I would told you play with Beta 1.1 that sohulsd have fixed the end-ganme crisis event chains, but 1.1 beta is currenly crashing for most poeple.. so i guess wait ?

not crashing here :). the end game crisises should be fixed, so its atleast worth a try.

They pulled the beta build that was causing crashes. Using a different build for the beta now. Still might have other stuff that is broken though so use at your own risk.

Specifically, it was a hotfix to the beta build that was reverted via a phone while the dev's were at some kind of party.
Its on the forums.

I've been playing the beta 1.1 patch and the AI seems to be fixed in regards to crisis events.

The scourge showed up on the opposite side of the galaxy from me. The AI that is there seems to be handling it decently. The scourge took a foot hold but its definitely not expanding or running loose all over the galaxy.

Hooray! First anecdote I've seen saying the fix works!

Good for you. I was in the same cloth as you and the pathetic Empire where they landed wiped them out before they could even take a single planet.

Soooo anti-climax XD

Use armour and the best point defense you can find (preferably kinetic batteries/artilleries), since the enemy likes to make use of missiles, strike craft, and "acid blast" weapons, which I assume are kinetic.

Also use missiles (good subclassess: normal missiles & torpedoes since the enemy have no PD) and lasers (good subclasses: plasma, energy lances, and mining lasers work best against their armour - they have no shields - but all other laser types are good against armour as well).

Heavy shielding, PD and long-range weapons pretty much. Armour is also good if you have it.

Then sheer numbers, as always. They can't shoot at everything!
