Rogue Scientist?
Has anyone else dealt with this event yet? So far I've only seen it once and it had me spooked for a good hour while I tried to figure out what the hell had happened to my rank 4 Phys. Scientist. Still unsure as to what exactly happened, other than the "Escaping reality" bit.

When you start a new game, the game has a chance of randomly assigning you a starting quest, as follows:

# Sublight Probes (10%)
# Radical Cult (10%)
# Wanderlust (1%)
# Mass Extinction (10%)
# Nothing (69%)

The rogue scientist one you mention is the 1%. So you'll only get it in 1 in 100 games played.

Also *SPOILERS*

Completing the storyline triggers the Unbidden faster than any other method, so put on your brown pants before you finish it.

-----POSSIBLE SPOILERS-----

I hope you are not talking about some event I somehow triggered "Dimensional Pocket".. I had the choice to welcome the abducted back into the fold (with a new science ship) or to go all hostile on the returned ship for safety.. I went hostile as I was afraid they were mind-controlled or altered aliens or something bad.. Anyway I really hope this has nothing to do with the Unbidden or any Crisis AI stuff.. If anyone knows the outcome of welcoming them back I'd love to hear it!!
Just chose the 'welcoming back' part of the dimensional pocket quest, I'll inform you if anything happens.
Your sacrifice will be remembered for as long as it takes the hungry space bugs to eat the last of your pops!

considering that Cobrastan never wrote back, welcoming them back might be a really bad idea
I don't know - maybe they brought back stuff so awesome, he just doesn't want to share. o.o
