Unidentified Aliens - Can't research on them
Hey. I'm currently in the mid game of my first game, and there are some aliens I can't identify.
If I click on their stations or ships, it says I have to do a special project, but there aren't any for identifying anymore. (in the beginning phase of the game there were and they worked, I was able to identify some aliens)
Does anyone know how to fix this? Or experienced the same?

Yes, I noticed this as well.

In my game it seems to me that the previously indentified and hostile aliens (ancient mining drones, crystalline entities, e.t.c.) became those unresearchable, unidentified aliens

I still meet the aliens I was able to identify, in my game there are some unresearchable Empires. For example theres a planet in my Empire that has his own unidentified space station and on the planet there are living humans.. and i play as a human faction, but I did not colonize the planet.

Maybe those humans were abducted by another empire when your race was still primitive...? :P

Haven't got the unresearchable empires yet. I still see the same entities/mining drones which are still hostile though.

To me it seems the longer the game runs, not the game Stellaris itself but the "match", the more bugs I notice. Like the engine can't handle all the things at once and bit by bit, more and more data becomes corrupted.

I am not a programmer so this could be bs but it makes sense to me.

I had a problem that some of my space stations went over to an unresearchable "unidentified alien empire" even though they were still in my territory. The strangest thing was that they were still wearing my emblem (which none of the alien empires were using) and that they kept changing ownership despite remaining deep in my terrirory. I suspect that this is a bug somewhere in the game.

Can you check if you are experiencing something similar? or perhaps one of the alien empires in your game has the same problem...

This reply has potential spoilers - I just received a special event entitled "Ancient Mining Drones." The event window gives me two options to choose from and it seems on depending which options you choose, may or may not lead you to identifying these particular aliens. At this point it's a logical guess on my part, but makes sense (still in early game). .

Thanks, but I've chosen the option with which I am able to see what these are, and the ones I was able to research on are properly titled (for example the Mining Drones you mentioned)

Some of the Unidentified Aliens wear my emblem too, but I also encountered them outside of my territory / travelling through it

@TurnTheBane - Interesting. Thanks for the info :). As I said, it was a potential "guess" on my part. I'm still in early game due to lack of playtime due to real life stuff :). I really should keep solutions to those who have been able to advance further in game :P.

I had that happen, and it was also at the same time I had a mission to discover X number of alien artifacts. When I finished researching the artifacts, the aliens I could not investigate then contacted me. So it was an event that was reliant on the completion of another research event. Might be the same for you, do you have another unfinished event that involves ancient civilizations?

yeah, one with artifacts too. But can't find the other artifacts and i'm already controlling a big part of the galaxis.

Nah I totally understand why you thought that was a possible solution, if I was in early game too I might have thought the same. :)

Update:
Well, I was looking in one of the fallen empire systems and I found a colony with my emblem.
Not in my control or anything.

Colonies also get fancy names but this one didn't. Just the star name with the number designation.

So yeah, same thing is happening here.

Ive had this a few times, I still get ships flying through my borders which are 'unidentified' and we get no project to contact them. Another bug for the long list pdx :)
